The Gathering kept with the reputation of the first two books of the Gifting Series and did NOT disappoint readers. It continues with Tess and Luka continuing their quest to free their world of the unique “terrorist.” The adventure, mystery, action, and suspense don’t fade, as the many unexpected twists bring this trilogy to an excellent end. I loved The Gathering and the entire trilogy. I recommend this to all readers. I call this a HUGE 5 star book.

There are some books you read and enjoy, but that you just don't feel strongly enough about to want to keep in your permanent library. THIS IS **NOT** ONE OF THOSE BOOKS! THIS TRILOGY IS AN ABSOLUTE KEEPER. I just finished the last book and I already know that I'm going to delight in reading the series again and again. I'm going to want to refer to, and perhaps quote from, the passages I highlighted. I'll be recommending the series to friends. I'll feel warm just knowing that the characters I fell in love with are still nearby, residing on my bookshelf, ready & eager to be introduced to future generations. And, I won't be able to resist checking and rechecking every once in a while, just to see if perhaps a miracle has occurred and Tess, now off living her life, has decided to take the time to send her doting reader family an update (in the form of book #4, hint hint?).... because at the moment I'm feeling quite bereft!

The Good I find that I'm sad to see the story over. I'm still very attached to the characters and the world there. I love the mixture of this dystopian world with the paranormal elements of hopping, talking, and fighting through the dream world. The action is incredible, and there is the undercurrent of not being able to trust anyone that I enjoy in stories. I appreciate that at any moment, someone can turn bad. What makes this series so interesting is the great plot and world mixed with crazy twists and turns. In each book, they are in a different place. This time they are traveling some, and the bridge they went over had my heart thumping like crazy. Then they were in another remote location with more new characters thrown in. I love that each story had some new characters as well and still kept the old. I also think it's great that Ganshert is not afraid to kill off characters. It makes the story that much more impactful. The Bad The only gripe I have about The Gathering is how the end seemed wrapped up so quickly. There was a lot going on through this series, and the resolution seemed to creep up on me out of nowhere and end before I was prepared. The Romance There's a normal teen romance in this with hurt feelings, jealousy, and infatuation. I enjoyed seeing Luka and Tess grow into a better understanding of each other and finally talk more about how they feel about things. I enjoyed the love they shared and can see it lasting. Conclusion This is a great series, and The Gathering is a wonderful way to wrap it up. I happened upon this series through the first one being free on Amazon, and am not at all disappointed to have read this gem. It's got a great mixture of loss, death, hope, frustration, love, stubbornness, and redemption in the pages. I loved the characters and was amazed at how many couldn't be trusted or turned out to be a friend in the end. The twists that the story took and all the locations were fantastic. I loved mostly though watching Tess and Luka together fighting in the dream world against the darkness. The Gathering is an excellent end to this great series. Definitely recommended! "I can't trust anyone." Myself, included. Myself, most of all. I'm always wrong. I trust the wrong people. I accuse the wrong people. "It's like I have no idea which way is up. Nothing feels safe anymore." *Originally given 4 1/2 stars at JC's Book Haven

This series is incredible! If you read the first one, The Gifting, you have to read The Awakening and The Gathering - I don't think it's possible not to. The thing is, if you are a Believer, you know this story is not so far fetched - something that is actually reassuring if you are on the side of GOOD. If you are intrigued by this series, read Lord Foulgrin's Letters and The Ishbane Conspiracy for an educatuon, using fiction, in how Satan really works in our world.

completely held my focus. Despite doing my best to drag out the story as long as I could, I only made it two whole days. Actually more like a day and a half. If you haven't read The Awakening yet, just know that it ends with a major cliffhanger! I was chomping at the bit to get started on this. I was not disappointed, it never let up. She had me upset and mad, waiting on baited breath throughout it all. To me that's a sign of a good author.  When I first bought this I was happy, in the middle I was ready to toss it across the room, and at the end I was crying and clutching it to my chest. Call me crazy if you like, but I will tell you why I was so moved and you can decide for yourself. This story builds. It's expertly crafted to be layer upon layer. You don't even notice. It's like a slow small build of heat. You acclimate and adjust and without even realizing it you are just burning up and you feel just as overwhelmed as Tess. Her mind is spinning and your mind is spinning right along with it. Katie does a wonderful job at character development and pulling you into that world. There was no way I could think ahead and predict anything, I was so enraptured. I was Tess. When she was shocked I was too. When she was mad so was I!  Now that you know it's a book that will make you a first person player, let's talk about what you have to go through. Tess has plenty to be upset and overwhelmed about! The Gathering is full of everything. Surprises, action, romance, hope, and despair. There's no lack to be mentioned. You may argue and say, "That's in every book!" Well yes, ideally it will be. But you have to admit every author does it differently. Some are experts at their craft, and others not so much. Katie is a master craftsman. She takes scenarios you would only be able to describe as "intense" or "dramatic" and gives it new meaning. Make you realize one small word doesn't convey the depth of emotions she put you through. I try not to post any spoilers, so I am afraid to say more. If you've already started the series you'll know what I mean. If you haven't, what's stopping you? Let's see if I can convince you some more. I really am surprised there is no lull to be mentioned. As I said, I was attempting to be slightly reserved just in case the series as a whole wasn't all it seemed it could be. My doubt was unnecessary. This series delivers. It's very cohesive and precise. A few times I thought I caught some inconsistent mess ups and found out I was wrong.  I love the balance of it all. Creepy without going into anything horrific. Dramatic without being shallow. The romance was beautiful and had some reality to it I appreciated. I have no reserves recommending this series. Other than once it invades your life, and then leaves, you will be lost and sad for a bit. To me that's another ear mark of a good book and authors capabilities. I could go on for days, but I wouldn't have anything negative to say. I hope you read these and enjoy them as much as I have! The Gathering was such a fantastic read and I devoured it in a few hours. I'm so sad that the series is over but so glad I can reread it until my hearts content. Each book in the gifting series was better than the last and this one was no exception. K.E. Ganshert has a marvelous gift at tugging your heart strings to make you cry, laugh, and cheer for the good guys. You won't be upset by the last in the series (just disappointed it's over). :)
