Ms Dearing's novel of human life suriving an aftermath of war leaves residents of southern california reorganizing themselves to survive. They have settled into communities based on commom beliefs, basic needs and values. They are all full of hope and meet together to share in gatherings. Good verses evil is a continuing problem, but the forces of spirit, adaption, love, humor and social intercourse, plus some magic overpower the bad elements. These pioneer settlements of the future will suffer some loses, but ultimately will survive. It's a book worth reading.

Dearing writes so well, I feel I'm watching the book unfold in my head like a movie on the big screen. I loved all the characters - especially the strong female. Loved all the character development, locations, magic, good vs. evil, religeous groupings and how they were all brought together in this easy to read novel. I'm sure I'll read it over and over until the next installment comes out.

This book is epic. There are a lot of characters, and a lot going on, but it's all weaves together beautifully. It's not any one genre but it shows a world torn apart by war and reawakened by magic. Normally I would go into characters and things I love, but there is so much I love. It did take me a little while to get into the book, mostly because I was trying to piece together who went where, but once I Had that figured, I couldn't stop. The story is great, it spans a huge cast. There are magical elements that I love. Definitely worth the read if love something like Swan Song or the Stand with the way it brings so much but brings it together.

It took me a little while to get into this book, but I'm glad I stuck with it. One reason it was hard to get into it was because there are a lot of characters, but there is a list in the back to help you out with this. The book is based in California after World War III. The survivors of the war broke up into groups mainly based on religion. People had to go back to primitive times. The survivors come together every 6 months for a "Gathering" to remind them of what they went through and to continue forward. Through out the book there are lots of emotions, love, friendship, evil/good. During the 10 day gathering they come under attack. This is my first book by S.L. Dearing but I promise it won't be my last.

Fabulous read! Would make a great movie. This book has everything action, mystery, some humor, flirting, rejection, love, mystical...everything. This is the first book from this author that I have read and I am a new fan. I loved how she created a world I could see through the words and I really enjoyed the story. I was enthralled from beginning to end. I will be sure to read more from this author.

Its an ok story. I just couldn't get interested in it. I usually read a different kind of genre so maybe that's why it didn't interest me. But recommend anyone to give it a try! : )
