Overview

In 2025, Dr. Julia Delorme-Bernard, a leading Canadian microbiologist-infectiologist and virologist, is dispatched to the Malaysia Genome Institute in Kuala Lumpur, commonly known as the MGI, along with two colleagues and other scientists of various nationalities, to shed light on what is happening at this facility, which houses ultra-sophisticated laboratories. Rumors are circulating about a possible manipulation of the genome of SARS-CoV-2, which was responsible for COVID-19 a few years ago. Such a pathogenic germ could prove to be a real biological weapon. Did Julia take too many risks in accepting this request from her superior, director Frank Nolan of the Quebec Public Health Laboratory? Suspicious deaths soon accumulate around her. Are there any links between them? Who can Julia trust to help her in her pursuit to discover the truth? About the Author

Janick Laberge is a physician and lecturer from the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec. She also has a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in visual arts. Her artistic work has been presented and rewarded in Canada and abroad. She has been interested in creative writing for years and now wants to devote most of her time to it. In June 2020, she published her first collection of short stories Les secrets de l’Institut and created her own publishing house, DENDRIT Editions. This first novel, The Genome, perfectly meets her objectives of entertaining, informing, while providing emotions. Through this scientific thriller, she deals with modern topics: in particular, the emergence of new diseases and genetic manipulation. Several other projects should be carried out soon, especially two literary series.

Hello Janick! I finished The genome and that I found your book very entertaining. The pace is steady. I liked the technical side and the explanations (ex. DNA-RNA, etc.) I find interesting that you go into post-pandemic projections. Some of the issues you address, such as genetic manipulation, bacteriological weapons, overpopulation are very topical. I have just finished reading your book. In fact, I was so captivated that I was not able to stop reading. So, I think it's a very good novel! It moves at a frantic pace. It always keeps us in suspense and goes from twist to twist. It kind of reminded me of "24", and the James Bond films. It's not my usual kind of reading so it's a real compliment I give you. There is suspense, humor, a certain pleasure to live and above all, you talk about COVID, but you eliminate fear and discomfort.
