On her cruise from Lisbon, Portugal, to Malta, Melody meets Grant Winston, the dissolute but charming scion of a wealthy American family, and Alex Fenech, a Maltese doctoral student whose friendliness and broad knowledge of folklore are clearly underlain with depths which Melody finds both appealing and mysterious. The reader quickly learns a part of the mystery which Melody has not yet plumbed: that Alex is a member of an ancient Maltese brotherhood of werewolves, who are not violent creatures of the night, but instead devotees of the timeless Mother Goddess who has been called by such names as Isis and Astarte. As Melody enjoys her tour of a world she has never before visited, the two young men vie for her affections. Which man will she choose? How will she react when she learns Alex's secret?
