Lana Axe has written a finely tuned book in The Golden Owl – Calico Cat. Set in a town called Ticswyk, Lionel Cogg, an independent creator and tinker has enhanced a rescued street cat called Calico or Cali by Lionel. When Lionel is kidnapped by Jamison Morcroft, 2nd in Command for the Engineer Guild, Cali receives information and help through a mouse named Emmit who resides in the gas lamp factory. Their rescue of Lionel provides an insight of the evil doings of Jamison Morcroft. Lionel, Cali, and Emmit must work to stop any further harm. I enjoyed the detail written into this book and found I was unable to stop reading it. Each page drew me further into the plot.

Cali is a cat that has been tinkered on by the master tinkerer Lionel Cogg. Cali is friend with both Lionel and her mouse friend, Emitt. But then nefarious Jameson Morcroft kidnaps Lionel. It is up to Cali and Emitt to rescue Lionel. But there is much more to this plan than just a kidnapping. It is going to take Cali, Emitt, and all of their friends to stop Morcroft from using his clockwork spiders from stealing the Golden Owl from the museum. Cali has been altered to improve upon her natural talents. You can tell she has a wonderful friendship with both Lionel and Emitt and I love how she will go out to help rescue both Lionel and to stop the clockwork spiders. I love cats and do like the steampunk genera. This book was a great story of unlikely friends, lots of suspense, and action. The story is for mid-grade readers but it will easily become a favorite of all ages. I will definitely be looking for book two in this series. I received The Golden Owl for free from eBooks for Review in exchange for an honest review.

The Golden Owl (Clockwork Calico Book 1) by Lana Axe is a wonderful steampunk middle grade kids story. She is a cat that has implants that enhance her feline abilities and more. This special cat, and other animal friends, must work together to not only rescue her inventor friend, but stop a mad inventor and his horrible robot spiders. They are about to cause total havoc and steal a great treasure! The characters are delightful and the plot clever. The story tells you enough about the main characters that you feel you know them. (Good or bad) I enjoyed it and I am sure that children will enjoy it too. I received this book for a honest review.
