I really enjoyed The Twilight Wife and was eager to read another of A. J. Banner's books. The beginning of this book sucked me right in and Chapter 2 had so much rich description and intense desperation that I felt as if I was there on Sitka Lane experiencing that night along with Sarah and her neighbors. The lingering mysteries as the story went on held me captive and made it very difficult to put this book down for any length of time. I was so suspicous of nearly everyone that it almost physically hurt as I burned with the need to know more and with the need for things to become clearer. This book had no shortage of twists an turns as things went along. I was constantly looking over my shoulder as I wondered who would be at the bottom of all the wrongdoing. The ending was fantastic, and although it tied up many of the loose ends, it also left me with just enough "what nows" to hold me in the grips of a book hangover. I can't wait to read more from A. J. Banner. She writes truly marvelous suspense that keeps me in its clutches from cover to cover.

3-1/2 stars for me. At under 200 pages, easily read in one sitting. Kept a nice pace with a few minor twists.

I thought I’d give it a try seeing as it was in “Thriller” and “Suspense” category. After reading it I googled the definition of suspense to see if it had changed since I was last in school. “Suspense, noun, a state or feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what may happen.” Yup still the same so it’s official this book didn’t deliver. The book is well written with great descriptions which made me feel as if I was out there in the rainy PNW with them, but that’s about all I have that’s good to say about it. The characters are static, straightforward and predictable. The plot line is just there with no real suspense. There is a traumatic event at the beginning, which throws in to question a lot of what the main character, Sarah, believes is true. Is her husband cheating on her? Not very original nor suspenseful. Is someone trying to kill her? It would be suspenseful if it were more of a major part of the story line, but it isn’t. In the end a majority of the plot is how Sarah recovers from this traumatic experience that she had which, quite frankly, I didn’t find that interesting. In the end there is a suspenseful ending but it really felt as if it came out of nowhere? There seemed to be little buildup to see it was coming (except that I was close to the end of the book) and no real way to guess who it was going to be since there were no hints along the way. I just felt disappointed when I reached the end of the story.

Check out the full review at Kritters Ramblings Sarah is somewhat newly married and as her husband is out of town for work she is left at home when tragedy strikes a neighbor's home and their house goes up in flames. The flames jump and destroy her home too and this big tragedy sends her world spiraling! I enjoyed this book, it was the quickest read. I read it in two sittings while in Atlanta for a work trip and the pages flipped very quickly. It was easy to get to know the characters and all the drama kept me wanting to read read read.

CAPTIVATING DEBUT NOVEL It seems by the reviews that you either love or hate this book. Many I know, hate it! I, myself, found that I thoroughly enjoyed it! I felt like the writing was great, especially for a first-time novel. I was amazed at how quickly A.J. Banner's writing drew me in and kept my attention throughout the entire book. Something that even experienced author's have trouble doing on a regular basis. The story was short, but long enough to get the point across. It was difficult to figure out what was going to happen next and who was to blame for what was happening. A Good Neighbor was enough to make you wonder if even you yourself can trust your loved ones, your neighbors, and those that are closest to you! I think that Banner is really onto something great with this book, and I will be interested to see if this becomes a series! If there was anything I didn't like about the book, it was the way the ending was left to the imagination! It left me wanting more!!!! Overall, I think that Banner did a stellar job writing this first novel, and I am excited to see what is to come in her future! I think this writer has the potential to go extremely far and that she has done a wonderful job at writing her first novel!

I received this book from the Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. In The Good Neighbor, Sarah and her new husband, Dr. Johnny McDonald are hit by a tragedy that will send shock waves throughout the neighborhood. One night when Johnny is away, a fire at their next door neighbor's house sends Sarah on a rescue mission to save the neighbor's daughter, Mia but only to have her house catch fire and have a tree narrowly missing Sarah when she is bringing Mia down the ladder. Because of the house fire, Johnny & Sarah move into a rental in a neighborhood that will change the course of everything Sarah knows to be true. As secrets are reveled about who their neighbors are and what Johnny was keeping from Sarah, it all leads up to the big shocker that will be revealed on the very last page. It was a short read but full of mystery of who set the fire to what is Johnny really up to. I like books like this that keep you guessing, even I didn't see what was coming on the last page and I so wish there will be a follow up to this story just to see what happens with Sarah and the choices she will have to make. Thank You to A.J. Banner for writing a good suspense book that had me guessing up to the end!
