Despite the year when recorded, Atlantic Records must have dispatched their greatest sound technicians along with then state of the art recording equipment, coupled with the cooperation of the music gods and a little help from the Duke himself to produce not only the best live recorded concert by Duke Ellington, but arguably one of the greatest jazz records ever released. The sound is beautiful and the band, well, all that I can say is Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves, Cootie Williams, along with the Duke and Billy Strayhorn . This is one meaty, jazzy, ''rockin' in rhythm'' experience and a must for any serious record collector. You will not be disappointed, but you may receive an instant education on the history of a jazz country called Duke Ellington.
