While the book may use some common phonics rimes, I wouldn't recommend this for the emerging reader. I'm also not fond of some of the words in the books. Like calling one of the "bad" kings a jerk. However, the stories are of reasonable length and the pictures are well done too.

I bought the Growing Reader Phonics Bible for my 4 year old son. For several months I search for a bible that will be engaging, bibically faithful and with appealing illustrations. The Growing Reader Phonics Bible was a magnificent choice. My son asks me to re-read some of the same stories. I highly recommend it. Phonics based bible stories is also a fabulous tool academically for all children.

I was delighted when my almost 6 year old son, Brandon, told me that he wanted his own 'grown-up Bible.' When we got to the bookstore, he ran ahead of us and by the time we reached the children's Bible section, he had already selected 'The Growing Reader Phonics Bible.' The moment I opened it, I knew it was perfect. Each chapter rhymes and focuses on a different phonic sound. Most importantly, this is a Bible that HE can read and understand. He reads a chapter to me or my husband almost every day, and when he read it to his Godmother, she loved it so much she wants to buy one for herself! This Bible is a must-have and I plan to buy 2 more to give as gifts.

I bought this Bible for story time at AWANA Cubbies (3 & 4 year olds). It is GREAT. It's like 'Dr. Suess does the Bible'. Lots of rhyming and funny word combinations make the stories a lot of fun to read and the kids really listen. Highly recommended!
