Overview

The Healing by Frances Pergamo

A rich, poignant eBook about a family’s emotional struggles after the father, a firefighter, becomes ill—and the healing power of love and hope.

Karen and Mike Donnelly were a happy, normal married couple with a teenaged daughter. Mike, a firefighter, was a hero to both his wife and daughter. Then Mike is stricken with multiple sclerosis—and as his health begins to deteriorate, so does the family. Quitting her job to become Mike’s caretaker, Karen is both overwhelmed and devastated—especially when their daughter Lori falls into destructive behavior, adding to Karen’s burden.

Seeking comfort and relief, Karen moves them to her family’s old summer house on Long Island. She wonders, why did this tragedy strike her family? Searching for solace, Karen reflects on the comfort of her happier past—and when a mysterious woman with a special gift comes into her life, Karen finally feels hopeful about the future.

Vividly told and emotionally complex, The Healing raises universal questions about love, identity, loss, and forgiveness.

A relaxing yet emotional read. The setting and tone make it easy to but yourself in Karen's shoes to see what she is going thru. This book makes you reflect on what makes you strong through all your challenges in life, no matter how big or small. It helps you see how strong commitments are what love and family are all about.

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. What a wonderful story about real people and how they cope with a difficult situation. The characters came alive for me while I was reading the book.

A great book is one that leaves you feeling inspired and renewed in your spirit. This book certainly does that. In a society where the sanctity of marriage is often minimized, this book reminds us what love, marriage, and vows of "till death do us part" really mean. An excellent read- I promise you will not be able to put it down.

A poignant story that makes you count your lucky stars and be thankful for all the good you have in your life. We don't always appreciate what we have in these days of "wanting it all."

The kind of story that stays with you, with reflections on how the intricacies of family bonds - most significantly marriage - can be most fulfilling when they seem to drain the most from us. A strongly pro-marriage story. I loved it.

An engrossing book with strong characters. Not a romance, but a book about the meaning of love and family. Highly recommend.
