We¿ve all heard that ¿food is the best medicine¿, and I¿ve experienced the positive results of managing my health with carefully selected food choices for years, but as the owner of a city library¿s worth of books, and shelves expressly related to natural health, my first thought was `do I need another book on natural healing?¿ The answer was a definitive `yes¿ as soon as I began to explore Cal¿s creative exploration of olive oil. The first thing that struck a chord with me is the very personable style in which she communicates her experience and knowledge. This is your best friend sharing inside secrets and recipes. You can `drop in¿ anywhere and read a cool tidbit! And I love the Resource Guide in the back! Because even the best resources can be a little bit better, I¿d love to see Cal add a true Index in the back in the next printing or version. That way if a friend mentions a current health issue, I can check the back and locate just the right passage for insight. All in all an excellent book and one well worth purchasing!

Cal Orey has done it again. As with the 'Healing Powers of Vinegar', she gives us enough kindling to light up out our imagination and curiousity to try the Olive Oil home remedies, recipes, household uses and health tips presented here. After all, something as historical and universal as Olive Oil must have a purpose on the planet. The array of home remedies features an enjoyable threefold presentation: The actual home remedy, Such as 'Dump Dandruff', the 'how to' of the application, and the amusing 'Why you'll like it.' For household uses of Olive Oil Orey leaves nothing out, going the gamut of spraying our plants with a combo of water and olive oil to nourish and shine them up, to polishing our good wood furniture with it. Turning Greek into English, Orey simplifies the confusing language of good fats vs Not such good fats, polyunaturated, saturated and confusing mumbo jumbo. Making the mysterious Mediterranean diet come clear also helps us to develop a healthier lifestyle gently thus achieving better health and well being. The boon of opportunities to implement or simply replace a mainstream or medical product for the natural essence of Olive Oil is inspiring. Who knew that Olive Oil and Vinegar on salads helps keeps weight down and supplies oils rich in Vitamin E, among others? Who knew that Olive Oil is also said to help lubricate aging, aching joints? Dripping with well sourced medical facts, personal anectdotes and testimonials to the benefits of this jewel of the grove, We know that the suggestions and data are not coming from nowhere and so generous with her tributes that we can find more out about said experts or civilians' claims. Her personal style is like a waterfall, all connected and moving along at a fun, rapid pace. This is a great read, and a good addition to all those medical books on first aid that many of you have in your homes. Delight in the wonders of the natural world and read this entertaining and stimulating resource.

When a recipe calls for vegetable oil I always use olive oil. I have used it for years. I spray all my pans and racks with olive oil spray. Whenever I fry potatoes I use olive oil. My husband and I did this when we wanted to get healthy. Olive oil has been used since the beginning of time, so it must be the best to use, wouldn't you think? I will never change. This book provided many more details I didn't know about. I recommend it to everyone that wants to be, and stay, healthy.

I Like Cal's books and always learn a lot, I know olive oil is good but did not know so many ideas for use. I take a lot of olive leaf supplement and tea, the oil is a bonus!

From being the author of The Healing Powers of Vinegar comes a definitive and practical guide to one of nature's most miraculous foods, complete with health benefits, home uses, and dozens of recipes. In this book I describe olive oil's remarkable uses in preventing and treating a wide range of conditions, including lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, taking off excess pounds and unhealthy body fat, preventing diabetes, and more. In a lively and easy-to-read style, I trace the origins of olive oil and include tips from a wealth of uses, from minimizing stretch marks to conditioning a pet's coat. I provide dozens of home cures as well as uses for beauty, kids, household chores, intriguing anecdotes from Europeans and folks who produce olive oil products and/or experienced tasting tours. Plus, I provide the reader with Mediterranean heart-healthy recipes from famous health spa chefs. Here is a taste from my new book--a complete guide to nature's gold: 'In the real world,I sit here in my study with snow-covered ground outdoors in the California Sierra and fantasize about how wonderful it would be to live in Italy amid olive trees. But, whisking off in a plane to Europe isn't going to happen for me today or tomorrow. Still, I will take you along with me to visit real people and real places where you will get a real flavor of the Mediterranean basin and of the healing powers of olive oil.'

Cal Orey has written another very informative book. I feel like I finally understand the various types of olive oil I see in many stores. I love the way she summarizes each chapter calling them 'The Golden Secrets to Remember.' I especially loved the chapters called 'Cures from Your Kitchen (30 ways to use Olive Oil Remedies)' and 'Olive Oil Mania: Using Olive Oil for the Household, Kids, Pets, and Beauty.' I plan to visit an olive oil producer mentioned that is a half hour drive from our home as well as trying some of the recipes she has included. Until reading this book I had no idea there were so many benefits from olive oil. I look forward to trying the various types in my home. This book is a must for anyone wanting to know more about olive oil.
