About the Author

Computers fascinated me since before high school, so I became a computer engineer. About 1996, at the age of 35, I became sick with multiple chemical sensitivity. I was able to continue working while going from doctor to doctor trying to find help - or even just find one willing to discuss a controversial illness.

Eventually I found competent doctors, but by then it was too late. The illness had gotten worse and progressed into electrical hypersensitivity, which meant I could no longer watch TV, use a computer or even stand next to someone using a cell phone.

At the age of 39, I had to check out of regular society and flee to a refugee camp in Texas. Later, I moved to a remote part of the Arizona desert where there are communities of fellow patients. Here we can live in relative peace from the chemical and electrical pollution that makes us sick. Along the way, I met over a hundred people with the same illnesses, each with their own story.

My first book, Chemical and Electrical Hypersensitivity: A Sufferer's Memoir, chronicles my story, and some of theirs too. My second book, The Healthy House Quest: Finding and Building Housing for Someone with Chemical and Electrical Hypersensitivities, details how I was able to build an affordable, healthy house where I can now live in peace and safety. At long last, I have a true home.
