In the early twentieth century a little-known-of but highly productive South African gold mine finally reaches its fateful end and is abandoned. Now, eighty years later, the grandson of the man responsible for the mine's excavation has discovered the hidden secrets of the mine and funds an unlawful and elaborate mission to retrieve its stored treasures.
The syndicate kidnaps Andrew Everett, a university student in Cape Town, during a well-planned setup. But it is not the young man they are after, rather Andrew's father, Charles Everett. This prominent Johannesburg businessman holds the key to the entire operation: access to the secret location of the gold mine.
The mission is executed with military precision by a group of highly trained international operatives, but two very different, yet determined detectives are pursuing them. One a gutsy old-school South African, the other a tough ex-Irish law enforcer, who are both slowly gaining ground on the group. Pride, justice and the prospect of receiving a healthy promotion drive the detectives, but their progress in the case receives several setbacks with information of their progress being leaked to the group of treasure hunters at every turn.
Set in a desolate but beautiful South African countryside, the race is on for the two detectives to intercept the mission and bring a known international crime syndicate to its knees.
