She's definitely not prepared to engage in her very first hookup with him. Then Izzy wakes up the next morning in Johnny Gamble's bed and good girl Izzy finds she likes being bad for Johnny.Even so, Izzy feels Johnny holding her at arm's length. But Johnny makes it clear he wants more and Izzy already knows she wants as much of hot-in-bed, sweet-out-of-it Johnny Gamble as she can get.Floating on air thinking this is going somewhere, Izzy quickly learns why Johnny holds distant. He's in love with someone else. Someone who left him and did it leaving him broken. Whoever was up next would be runner up, second best. Knowing the stakes, Izzy will take what she can get from the gentleman that's Johnny Gamble. And even knowing his heart might never mend, Johnny can't seem to stay away from Izzy.Until out of nowhere, his lost love comes back to town. He's not going back, but Johnny still knows the right thing to do is let Izzy go.And Izzy knew the stakes, so she makes it easy and slips though his fingers. But that's before Johnny realizes Eliza moved to town to escape danger that's been swirling around her.And that's why Johnny decides to wade in.That and the fact Eliza Forrester makes breakfast with a canary singing on her shoulder and fills out tight dresses in a way Johnny Gamble cannot get out of his head.

About the Author

Kristen Ashley is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. She grew up in Indiana, but has lived in Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she's been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least), but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, living in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

I truly started my journey with Miss Ashley starry eyes and excitement, but now she seems to be dwindling. What I always loved so much was she sucked you in with all five senses into her books. I could smell, taste, feel, hear, and see everything she wrote. Now it seems she is so intent on publishing so fast that she is leaving out what she was so great at, what set her above and beyond any other author; character development. Her stories seem hurried, unplanned, not well thought through, and simply subpar to what she is actually capable of writing. Please Miss Kristie take a vacation and come back to us, your adoring fans, with a story that is worthy of your talents. I want the quality back even if I have to wait for it. Quality is so much more important. Praying you realize that soon.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It reminded me of some of her earlier works, but it wasn't a carbon copy of anything else she has written. I have to admit, the last 3 or 4 books KA has published were all extremely disappointing for me, every character talking and acting the exact same way. I loved Izzy in this book, she was a refreshing new heroine, with the traumatic past and crazy family and awesome clothes of KA's heroines, but a sweeter, more southern, more interesting version. I thought during this entire book, now this is a girl I would hang out with! I also really enjoyed the change in setting, as this book takes place in Kentucky rather than Colorado. I can't wait for more in this series!

Loved this story so very much!! Loved that I got Johnny’s point of view, we heard him! Loved Izzy’s strength! The acceptance with which she took Johnny’s love and all that was him! The way he wanted to protect her, very common theme in KA books, but she always delivers it with such a sense realism! Beautiful KA book!

Everything that you loved about the Rock Chick, Dream Men and Chaos series can be found in The Hookup, Kristen Ashley's latest book. Johnny Gamble is hot. Iz is fantastic. The Hookup is classic Kristen Ashley. A definite must read about a man discovering that sometimes the one that follows is actually the one that's the keeper and the future. Looking forward to the next book in this series. Hoping to see Toby's book next.

Izzy has had some hard knocks in her life so when she finds out her one night stand is in love with someone else she is ok with taking what he will give her. After all thats probably all she deserves. (Her thoughts not mine!) Johnny’s head is messed up from his previous breakup and when that woman moves back to town, even though he knows he’s not getting back with her, he lets Izzy out of his life. One night he runs into Izzy eating alone at a restaurant and finds out about some of her past troubles and decides immediately to get back involved and make sure she is safe. Izzy is one of those characters that seems a little unreal but you can’t help but like. She’s all rainbows and butterfly’s, sweet, nice and girly. Her place is shabby chic. Johnny is your typical Kristen Ashley male. Very alpha and masculine but with a warm heart that beats for one woman. What Johnny comes to realize is that that woman is now Eliza and he will do anything to keep her safe and happy. When her sister moves to town, bringing trouble with her too, Johnny opens his arms to Izzy’s family, wading in to insure their safety too. What’s not to like about this guy? Ok, his last name is Gamble. Johnny Gamble is kind of a silly non Alpha sounding name but I got over it pretty quick. I really enjoyed this novel. It reminded me of the older KA novels like the Burg series or even some of the stand alone novels like Play It Safe. Those are some of my favorites. A good old fashioned romance of boy meets girl, gets to know and love her and wants to be with her forever. There’s a tiny hint of danger thrown in for conflict which hits just the right note keeping the novel from being too sweet. The heat level is not sweet though, it’s very spicy!

If you have never read a Kristen Ashley's book, stop reading the book you have now in your hands and take one of hers. It doesn't matter which one. All of them will fascinate you. Some of the best stories started as a hookup. I must admit that's the way I met my husband!! I love the characters from this book. As Johnny says, a person should be insane to dislake Izzy. And, please, don't make me enumerate all Johnny's qualities. Because you can be reading this review all day long. Anyway, I will just say he is THE MOST PERFECT GUY IN THE WHOLE WORLD!! There. You have his description. And I am not exaggerating. This book is just perfect. Because the message is true. There IS love after you have been destroyed. Everyone deserves another chance at love. But... what am I going to read now? because it doesn't really matter which book I choose. I won't like it. Whenever I finish one of kristen Ashley's books, I enter in a depressive state for a while. I don't want to stop reading about these people. I want them to be real and be part of my life. It happened with the Rock Chick series, too. Or the Colorado Mountain series. Or the Dream Man series... I hope the next book is about Tobey and Addie.

This is classic KA....especially if you loved the Colorado Men series. I won't get into the synopsis of the book....you need to read it! If you are a KA fan, you will definitely love this book....although there were scenes that were very similar to here other books. In fact, there is a scene where Izzie looks in the mirror and thinks something. This scene is taken from Sweet Dreams....one of my favorite KA books. Also Izzy's friend reminds me of many of KA's heroines' sidekicks/friends, even down to the description. All that being said, I did enjoy the last 2 KA books(Complicated and the Hook Up). Both books remind me of why I love her books so much! Izzy can be a bit annoying in her "head talk" but she is a solid heroine. And of course Johnny Gamble is swoon worthy! Classic alpha hero!

4.5 “I need babies in my epilogues to be happy” Stars I. Loved. This. The Hookup was sweet, sexy, engaging, had a little bit of drama and a whole new KA universe to dive into. Izzy and Johnny share an instant and powerful connection but unfortunately for them both they have lots a baggage getting in the way. Especially Johnny’s ex who left him broken-hearted and then decides to show back in town, three years later, right when they’re starting to get to know each other. Fortunately for Izzy (and all of us, really), Johnny gets his head sorted and out of his butt fast enough to realize he doesn’t want to lose what he’d found in Izzy so he goes full throttle to win her. Izzy, in turn, doesn’t fight this much and goes all in too. Against all odds, she had a happy childhood regardless of the difficult circumstances. Her experiences in the romance department hadn’t been stellar either. Despite all this, she was sweet, funny, loyal and goofy. She loved and bonded with anyone who’d deserve it and her willingness to open her heart was inspiring. Johnny was completely drool-worthy. A hard-working (even when he needn’t be) bossy, all-man, alpha mechanic who could be sweet, considerate and really knew what to do in the bedroom (or shower, or barn wall, or tent… you get my drift), he had me in a pile of goo under a minute. I loved that we got a lot of Johnny’s PoV too, and also got to witness both of them in the process of falling in love. I enjoyed all the family, both blood and chosen, that we got to meet and experience. There is banter, smartassedness and great conversations. While I completely adored The Hookup, I felt the action could have been upped a little bit. Having recently re-read the first couple of books in the Colorado Mountain series, I can’t help but draw comparisons. (I can’t believe I’m saying this) but the ex’s could have played a more significant role in the drama department. Especially in Izzy’s case where all the ingredients for some crazy-stalker-psycho pie where all there laid out. Without multiple complicated layers of suspense, this is a mostly relationship driven romance. It has lots of feels, crazy hot sextivities, the cutest baby boy, and pets galore. I adored Johnny and Izzy together and all the new characters we got to meet. I did not adore the epilogue. Ms. Ashley, let it be noted since there is only talk of copious amounts of babies but not even one in sight (not even in production stage), I better get lots of babies in the next installment of this series or you’ll have one crazily disappointed reader.

I enjoyed reading this one and I sure hope its the start of a new series. With almost all Kristen Ashleys books..we are pulled into the story and fall in love with the characters..not just the main ones but the back story characters too. I sure would like more stories for Shandra. Addie & Toby. Deanna & Charlie. Margot & Dave and so on and so on...lol. This story was a little shorter than most of her others (280 pages) but still super good!
