The Hot Shot by Kristen Callihan

First we were friends. Then we were roommates. Now I want more...

What can I say about Chess Copper? The woman is capable of bringing me to my knees. I know this about five minutes after getting naked for her.

No one is more surprised than me. The prickly photographer my team hired to shoot our annual charity calendar isn't my usual type. She's defense to my offense, a challenge at every turn. But when I'm with her, all the regrets and darkness goes away. She makes life fun.

I want to know Chess, be close to her. Which is a bad idea.

Chess is looking for a relationship. I've never given a woman more than one night. But when fate leaves Chess without a home, I step up and offer her mine. We're roommates now. Friends without benefits. But it's getting harder to keep our hands off each other. And the longer we live together the more I realize she's becoming my everything.

Trick is... Now that I've made her believe I'm a bad bet, how do I convince her to give this player a true shot at forever?

Hot Shot is a decent book and I enjoyed it. The book is pretty much what you would expect from a Kelly Jamieson romance. I think it is closer to 3 1/2 stars than 4 stars, but I don't like to score a book down. Our couple, Carrie and Marco, are likable characters who have hidden depths. Carrie is not just an airhead model and Marco is not just a guy looking to skate through life going from party to party. Both characters have self worth issues stemming from their childhoods (where the seeds of self worth issues are generally sown). Over the course of the book both characters grow and help each other figure out what they want in their lives. By the end of the book I did feel that Carrie and Marco belonged together and had a foundation to build a lasting romantic relationship on. I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love this whole series and have reread the first three books several times. This one lives up to and surpasses those. Not only are the love scenes amazing, but the dialogue and details make it fully realized love story. Every kiss on the top of the head and hand hold is perfect. I also highly recommend Callihan's other series that includes a top pick for me titled Managed.

From the sexy cover to the intriguing synopsis, Callihan did an amazing job creating a story filled with steamy scenes and second chances at love. In this particular story we get to meet Finn and Chess Copper as they struggle to keep their friendship from becoming something more. As a professional photographer, Chess has worked with a lot of people, but even though her business is successful she can't seem to be lucky at finding the right person for her. When she gets hired to photograph a football team for their annual charity calendar, Chess wasn't expecting to find Finn particularly alluring. After all, she is photographing really attractive men, but there is something about Finn that has her from the very begging and although he can be cocky she can't seem to get him out of her mind. It is through a series of unfortunate events that lead her straight to him and to becoming his roommate. Now she has to figure out a way to keep her distance if she doesn't want to get her heart broken. For Finn, being the quarterback of a successful football team has its perks. He can get just about any women he would like and his the ladies love his personality. But there is one person that challenges him and finally treats him as a regular person, and he can't stop thinking about Chess Copper. He knows that he should stay away from her, but the more he learns about her, the more he wants to make her his. Now he just has to convince her that they might just perfect for each other. I absolutely loved reading this book, it was funny and romantic. Finn is the perfect male character in my opinion, he is kind and would do anything for Chess. Their instant chemistry would leave you wanting for more. We get learn about their pasts in the story which helped understand the decisions that they would make in the book. Chess is someone that wants to have the perfect relationship, and not a random hookup. It is until she meets Finn that she starts to question if he could be the one. Not only was the story sweet and entertaining, the the epilogue is going to melt your heart. I would highly recommend reading The Hot Shot, you will not regret it. :) ***ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.***

I've been a fan of this series from the get go. I love watching all the characters grow and interact. It's great to see so many personalities come together and make a story come alive. And Callihan really gave herself so much to work with. The possibilities are endless. So when I heard this would be Finn's story I was ecstatic. The glimpses of him we had gotten were not enough for me but also only showed me the rough exterior of this guy who had so much more underneath. I'm so glad she took his story to a deeper level! This is one you can definitely read alone. As with most of the books in this series, there is some overlap, mostly with characters. But for this one, you really just get Chess and Finn's story (which is happening at the same time as Dex's story). The introduction really starts with a bang. Callihan goes no holds barred with how she introduces Finn and Chess. It's full on, in your face, "here we are," attraction. And I love this because to both characters it's completely unexpected. I adore when characters are not looking for things that get thrown right in their face. Yes, build up is nice, and this book has that, don't get me wrong, but Callihan makes it clear from the beginning that physical attraction is definitely a key player. And there's nothing wrong with that. After all, you have to be attracted to the one you love, even if unexpected! Chess is an amazing character. She's gruff and bold. She has no problem holding back who she is, at least when it comes to her work. In love, on the other hand, she's got some issues. No shocker there as most characters in these types of stories have some kind of secret that needs to come out at some point. And hers is a big one that takes a while to be revealed. Finn, oh Finn. I think he might actually turn out to be my favorite character in this series. I wasn't planning that at all. I really thought he was going to be this big headed jerk. I wasn't expecting this big, tender, gentle, giant. Callihan really knows how to show a different interior from what you see outside, believe me! Emotionally, he's so well put together, I was surprised. Even with his background and the one big hurdle he's had to endure, he's so amazing. He knows exactly how to get under Chess's skin and he knows exactly how to make her feel special. He does it without thought for the most part, it's just who he is. Momma raised him right! Of course there's tons of funny scenes in the book that keep you laughing. Finn's interactions with his teammates are no different from what you've seen in the past books of this series. These guys are the best of friends and have such brotherly love you know they would do anything for each other. His assistant, Charles, is great, and a bit unexpected. When you read the description of the guy and find out a bit about him, it's surprising, and kind of fun! And Chess's best friend James, he is another amazing addition to this story. He's fun and funny and totally quirky. At first, I wasn't sure what to make of him, but then I let him just be in my mind and he was absolutely perfect as her side kick. I want him for my own! Overall this book was a total hit for me. Am I sad this series has come to an end? Oh yes! There are so many characters that need their stories told (though Callihan has promised a spin off which I'm sure won't disappoint). If you've had fun with any books in this series, you'll certainly enjoy this one just as much. The story, the pace, the laughter, th

It feels like a long time that I’ve been in this world created by Kristen Callihan and when I started reading I realized how much I missed the characters and their stories. In this book Finn and Chess start out with the wrong foot but that changes pretty quickly when Finn realized that maybe he wants to finally get serious with a woman, the only problem is that Chess isn’t really sure that Finn is ready to start something solid with her and that’s why they start out as friends. It was a slow torture to read them as friends because Finn was obviously just waiting for her to accept him as more that a friend, things weren’t always great and fine, both Finn and Chess have things and feelings that they feel they can’t share with the other yet but circumstances make them share their insecurities and fears. The writing is spot on (as always), both characters bring something unique to the book, their interactions are heartfelt and it was easy for me to sympathize with them and put myself in their place and try to figure out what I would do in their position. I can’t wait to know who is next in this series, I have some ideas that I hope come true.

What happens when you mix hunky Football players, a friends-to-lovers plot, totally Rad 80’s/90’s movie references, and a super catchy Elvis song all together? Magic. Pure, romance novel, magic my friends. The Hot Shot is the fourth installment of author Kristen Callihan’s Game On series and, in my opinion, this series just gets better and better. I gushed about Dex in my review of The Game Plan (book three) and I didn’t think any of the Game On boys could top him, but Manny totally has. Finn Mannus is the bees knees y’all. He’s ultra charming with a quick wit and a gigantic heart that made me swoon page after page. I was equally as impressed with Chess as I was with Manny. Chester Copper is hands down my favorite romance novel character name, ever. Bless poor Chess and the hilarious-but-awful name her flighty parents gave her. lol I loved the way Chess took control of the situation with the photo shoot in the beginning of the book. She stood her ground and refused to allow the muscly jocks run over her and handled them like a boss. She especially impressed me with Fin’s photo session. Their witty banter was super fun to read and they kept it up through the entire book. Both of these characters are strong-willed and refuse to bend except for each other and that, to me, makes for an ultra sweet romance. I give The Hot Shot 5 out of 5 Krissy’s Stars. I expected that I’d enjoy this book due to liking the previous books in this series, but I hadn’t expected to LOVE it as much as I did…even though I’m still humming the Goonies theme song as I’m writing this review. LOL Xo-K *I was generously given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"One day, Chess, you're going to feel safe enough to let go. And I'm going to be there to catch you when you fall." "Every emotion I'm capable of having amps up with him. I feel. I live. I breathe/ The world is more real when he is there." The Hot Shot is the fourth book in the Game On Series, and while it can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone novel, I do want to let you know that this story fits in the same timeline as The Game Plan. So, while you don't need to read The Game Plan first, I just want to let you know that there might be some spoilers if you haven't already read it. The Hot Shot is told from dual points of view and follows the story of Chess and Finn. Chess and Finn couldn't be more opposites if they tried. Chess is a smart mouthed, snarky photographer. She gives just as good as she gets and isn't afraid to step up to the challenge with Finn. But, under the surface there is more to Chess than meets the eye. She's fun, smart and has a personality that matches her bold hair color. She challenges Finn in ways that he could never imagine and for poor Finn, it looks like he might of just met his match....There is nothing more that Finn loves than playing football. He loves the game and loves woman. Chess is absolutely not his type, but some how, Chess has managed to get under his skin. The more time he spends with her, the more he wants to know her. He knows getting close is a bad idea because Chess is not a casual fling type girl. But, when circumstances beyond their control throws them together. These two won't be able to fight the pull and will burn hotter than ever.... Overall, I thought The Hot Shot was a great read. It was fun and entertaining. I loved the banter between Chess and Finn. I thought the two of them were a lot of fun together and I looked forward to seeing what would happen next. I thought Chess and Finn had excellent chemistry. I loved the way they challenged each other and I loved watching Finn slowly fall. Sure Finn and Chess had some ups and downs along the way, but that made their relationship even better to me. They had a great friendship and their relationship grew leaps and bounds throughout the story, and was just fantastic to watch them navigate their way to a happy ending. The Hot Shot was a really enjoyable read. I was able to finish it in just one sitting. I loved the characters and found them easy to connect with. I thought The Hot Shot was well written and very entertaining. It had just the right amount of drama, angst, romance and of course sexy good times. Overall a terrific read!

LOVED this book!!! Finn + Chess = perfection! This book was so good! Finn is a famous NFL quarterback and Chess is a photographer hired to shoot his (and his teammates) picture for a calendar. From the moment they meet, the chemistry between them is fantastic and their banter hilarious. I can't say enough how much I loved these characters. This was kind of a slow-burn, where the characters got to know each other before they fall into bed and the build up was fantastic. I loved their friendship and how much they came to mean to each other. There was a little angst, a few tears and a good amount of steam. Overall, I loved this book and can't wait to read whatever this author writes next! Highly recommend this one! It's a top pick of 2017 for me!
