Find this review and more at Lusty Penguin Reviews! The Hunted, the second novel of the Fracture: The Secret Enemy Saga, picks up where the first book left off with the Couton escaping through the facture and taking residence in New Orleans. Virginia McKevitt continues to build on her unique universe and her memorable characters to create another enticing and enjoyable read. In this installment of Fracture: The Secret Enemy Saga, the author explores secondary characters that were exposed as enemies at the end of the first. The main reason for Alexasia, the High Priestess of the Couton, to be in our world is to be free and steal as many memories as she can. Alexasia is a character who you just love to hate because she shows no remorse when taking what she wants from whomever she wants. As much as I enjoyed Alexasia’s part of the story, what really drew me to this story was the continued relationship building between Tegrin and Kristina, who carry baggage from their lives before they met. Tegrin, as a Guardian, sees love as a weakness, and he tries to push these feelings deep down because he is afraid that they will weaken his ability to fight. Tegrin’s concern about taking Kristina from her world haunts him, which made me love his character even more. Kristina, still reeling from the death of her parents, puts up a brave front and still struggles internally about the battles that lay ahead. These internal conflicts within Kristina keep her character real. The sexual tension between Tegrin and Kristina simmers throughout this story, and when they both realize they are truly meant for each other, their mating is a beautiful thing to see. Jimmy and Sissy’s relationship is explored too. Returning to New Orleans has been an emotional journey for Sissy because she has good and bad memories from the time she lived there. These recollections coupled with fighting the Couton leave Sissy an emotional mess. Her reactions are realistic, making her a believable character. Jimmy senses her struggles and does his best to help her through this difficult time, which makes him a wonderful and likeable character. McKavitt uses witty banter that creates many laugh-out-loud moments to lighten the mood while darkness surrounds them during the hunt for Couton. Intriguing, well-developed characters along with an interesting plot make The Hunted an engrossing story that is satisfying from beginning to end. I received an eBook copy from the author for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.

The Hunted by Virginia McKevitt was so amazing, I'm not sure I even have the words to tell you.  I became so enthralled in Tegrin's world in Fracture.  The Hunted brings the fight back to our world and fills it with magic, mystery and intrigue.  The bonds of love that were forged in Fracture hold true and stabilize in The Hunted.  I did not see so much action coming.  This story started out with a calming sense of preparedness that spiraled out of control in the last few chapters.  Nothing prepared me for the evil that unfolded in New Orleans.  Good and evil fighting under the eyes of God.  A perfect setting for a perfectly written book.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review* This is the second instalment in the Secret Enemy Saga. The Couton- a dangerous race of women who drain people of their memories are back and invading the city of New Orleans. It is up to Tegrin and Kristina to put a stop to them and their killing spree. Tegrin and Kristina are joined on their mission by their friends, Sissy and Jimmy. I liked these two supporting characters in this book and how they added another dimension to the story. I felt the action was kicked up a notch in this instalment and the content was a little grittier than the first book. This was to be expected as the number of murders increased as did their descriptions. This was not a bad thing as I enjoyed the authors writing. Being the romance fangirl that I am, I did enjoy the progression of the relationship between Tegrin and Kristina. No matter the circumstance or danger they faced, I was a sucker for the romance weaved through this book of action and suspense. I enjoyed this story perhaps more than I expected to. I fully immersed myself in the journey and was rooting for Tegrin and Kristina to triumph. I am hooked on these characters and must read any future quests they will have.
