The Hurricane is a new adult contemporary fighter romance which has found popularity in the indie market amongst books of the same genre. The novel is set in the UK and features characters both British and Irish. The synopsis is as follows:

Emily McCarthy is living in fear of a dark and dangerous past. A gifted mathematician, she is little more than a hollow, broken shell, trying desperately to make ends meet long enough to finish her degree.

Through an unlikely friendship with the aging, cantankerous owner of an old boxing gym, Em is thrown into the path of the most dangerous man that she has ever met.

Cormac "the Hurricane" O'Connell is cut, tattooed and dangerous. He is a lethal weapon with no safety and everyone is waiting for the mis-fire. He's never been knocked out before, but when he meet Em he falls, HARD. Unlike any other girl he's ever met, she doesn't want anything from him, but just being around her makes him want to be a better person.

They are polar opposites who were never meant to find each other, but some things are just worth the fight.

The novel tackles issues such as abuse and rape and is not intended for readers below the age of 18.

The Hurricane already has a popular indie following and a number of highly rated Goodreads reviews.

About the Author

R.J. Prescott was born in Cardiff, South Wales and studied law at the University of Bristol, England. Four weeks before graduation she fell in love, and stayed. Ten years later she convinced her crazy, wonderful fire fighter husband to move back to Cardiff where they now live with their two equally crazy sons. Juggling work, writing and family doesn't leave a lot of time, but curling up on the sofa with a cup of tea and a bar of chocolate for family movie night is definitely the best part of R.J. Prescott's week. "The Hurricane" is her debut New Adult Novel.

Wow. I have to say this book surprised me. I absolutely loved it. It was very well written and I loved the main and secondary characters. I never had any roll your eye moments which is rare for me in any book. The angst sometimes in books can be really silly. Not in this one. The background on both characters is heartbreaking and horrific. I can't wait for the next book. I think I just found a new fav author.

## Holy hotness batman, this book is ASTOUNDING. I have been in a book slump for weeks and came across this bad boy by chance and decided to go for it. Boy, I'm sure glad I did. I loved this story. Cormac was a dream. Where can I find myself one of those? And I actually adored the heroine as well. It was lovely seeing her blossom into this amazingly strong woman. She and the hero had fabulous chemistry and I loved how they were so open and honest with each other. Have I mentioned this hero is HOT? I also enjoyed the secondary characters so much that I hope they all get stories. Maybe Kieran & Marie, or Nikki & Ryan or even better Liam & Albie (that could be juicy). I will definitely be reading this again and highly recommend buying this now. Apprx. 280 pages.

he Hurricane is R.J. Prescott's debut novel.  It certainly doesn't read like it.  The book was wonderful and painful to read at the same time.  Both were a result of what happened with the characters and in the story.  Of course you can't have ecstasy without agony and Emily and Cormac experienced both in their short lives.   I both adored Emily and empathized with her.  She's escaped from some horrific conditions and is now focused on making a new life for herself.  I completely understood her terror at standing out and having her past leak into her present.  What I did not understand and couldn't comprehend is how she managed to deal with the trauma of her past.  It almost seemed like she'd managed to wipe the worst of it from her mind.  I adored Cormac too.  He might have looked like a brute, but he really cared for Emily.  He saw that spark in her and he cultivated it.  Yes he did a terrible job at pretending to be her friend when he wanted more, but he let her do things in her own time and never once pushed her for more. I really HATED Emily and Cormac's parents.  Especially their mothers.  Both of them were responsible for not only their development but the evil and horrible things that happened to them.  Both of them were a special kind of deluded that I wish I could've reached into the boo and smacked some sense into them. I loved the family they created for themselves. Thankfully Danny, the gym owner, was a surrogate parent of sorts to the both of them.   Danny was a dear and I loved how everyone was terrified of him even though they could probably bench press him several times over.  The story reads fast.  I was quickly pulled into the story and couldn't stop reading until the last page.  I laughed as often as I was charmed by Cormac and the other guys at the gym.  There were also moments when reading made my chest physically ache.  That maybe because I knew what was going to happen and I wanted with all my being for it not to happen.  I sincerely hope R.J. Prescott continues this series.  It'd be lovely to see Kieran and Tommy fall for women of their own. Either way, be prepared for a book that will knock your socks off.

When I first saw the cover of The Hurricane, by R.J. Prescott, my first thought was Holy Hot Cover! Hello!! Have you seen it?!?!?! I read the blurb next and I was intrigued. It was giving me a different vibe from the previous fighter stories that I have read in the past and I was anxious to start reading it. When I finished the first chapter of this book, I was crossing my fingers that this story would be memorable. And, it was!!! R.J. Prescott’s first novel was a phenomenal reading escape that will stay with me for a long time. From the moment I was introduced to the amazing characters of this story I knew that this book was going to leave me with a book hangover that would last for days! This story is passionate, romantic, heartbreaking, but most of all it’s a healing journey for two people who complete each other to perfection. Emily and O’Connell are simply addictive and irresistible! I promise you that you will love them as much as I did! The Hurricane follows sweet and shy Emily “Sunshine” McCarthy and bad boy fighter Cormac “the Hurricane” O’Connell. These two could not be any more different from each other. When Emily meets O’Connell for the first time she feel things that she should not feel. He’s a bad boy and he’s trouble. She knows that falling for him would break every one of her rules, but his persistence to become friends and to keep her safe leaves her speechless. O’Connell knew from the first moment that he saw Emily that she would be his. He’s in for the fight of his life to conquer her love, but Emily is keeping him away and only wants to be friends. She’s running from a past that has changed her life and he will do whatever it takes to take that fear away and make her feel safe and loved. I wish I could go back in time and read this book for the first time. I loved everything about this story. From the unforgettable characters to the beautiful breathtaking love story, R.J. Prescott wrote a passionate love story that was heart melting. She took the “sweet girl falls for the bad boy” storyline and made it her own. It was unique and memorable. Her writing style is captivating and will keep you turning the pages until the very end! Sunshine and O’Connell were such amazing characters to follow! I loved how they changed while the story developed. Their love made them stronger and it was beautiful to witness their friendship bloom into something more. Their chemistry was out of this world amazing!!! Each scene that they shared was putting a smile on my face. Emily’s sweet personality made me want to be her friend and O’Connell’s love for Emily made me swoon so many times! They both had a difficult childhood that has left them emotional scars. I won’t go into details about what happened to them because I feel that each reader needs to live every single moment of this amazing reading journey. I loved how Emily and O’Connell trusted each other with their life journey and how they healed those emotional scars with the power of their love. The Hurricane not only had phenomenal main characters, but equally addictive supporting characters. Danny, Kieran, Tommy, Liam, Nikki, Albie, Ryan and Max were great friends to Emily and O’Connell. They all had their place in this amazing journey and it simply would not have been the same without them! I give The Hurricane, by R.J. Prescott, 5 fantastic, heart melting, romantic, healing, memorable, captivating stars!

Emily is working double shifts to make money to finish her education. Waiting tables does not come easy as Emily is so shy she can barely speak to her customers, but one cantankerous old man breaches her silence and they become unlikely friends. Through this friendship he offers her a job as the bookkeeper at his gym. A job that requires her to hold her own among a group of rowdy young men. One of those men is up and coming fighter Cormac “The Hurricane” O’Connell. He has had his eye on this sweet quiet waitress and when she lands in his path he makes every effort to be her friend. This novel really surprised me. The cover fooled me, making me think this novel would be all “romance”. It was more of a slow burn novel. These characters were from the wrong side of the tracks, so there was some coarse language, but the pace of the novel was slow and easy, just as you’d imagine a guy like O’Connell would have to be to approach a girl like Emily. He eased his way into her heart which made this novel different and kept me engaged. There was also some seriousness to the reasons why Emily was so gun shy. She came from an abusive background, which made her falling for O’Connell kind of unrealistic, but again, the pace of the story made me overlook that fact. As she began to trust him, I did too. He wasn’t really the hard ass he portrayed himself to be. Another aspect of this story that I really liked was her relationship to the gym owner Danny. Although a grumpy character he was really the father she always wanted and their little one on one scenes were sweet, really adding to the depth of Emily’s character. If you are looking for a sports romance with character depth and heart, this is a great fit. I have not read a novel by R.J. Prescott previously and didn’t have any expectations, so I was pleasantly surprised that The Hurricane had the depth and emotional impact of a Kristen Callihan or J.T. Geissinger novel. I really enjoyed this discovery and look forward to reading more. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ 4-STAR ✩ REVIEW ✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ > > Judging a Book by its Cover > Looking Deeper First person, Emily’s perspective EXCEPT Prologue and Epilogue. Those are from Con’s pov. Setting: London, England UK terminology is prevalent. Emily escaped her nightmarish childhood only once she became of age and only with the help of a concerned teacher. Now, scraping by in London, she attends her university classes and waits tables while living in a rundown apartment. Afraid of her own shadow and anything else that moves, her goal is to be invisible at all times. O’Connell knows this girl is going to change his life and he’ll do everything in his power to make it happen. Suffering a craptastic upbringing himself, he does not believe he deserves someone as smart, kind, and beautiful as Em but he’ll live everyday striving to be better for her. They get off to a rocky start but with the help of Danny, Nikki, and a handful of others, they slowly find a careful path to friendship with room to grow. This story is billed as a New Adult Sports Romance but I felt there was a Suspenseful flare to it, waiting for Frank in every shadow, around every corner, behind every door. The reader KNOWS it’s bound to happen but not WHEN. The secondary characters ran the full spectrum from supportive, fun, and lovable friends to some downright dislikable ones. The plot was good but I had a hard time getting through it at a standard pace. It felt weighted down for me and I’m not sure if it was because of the UK setting and vocabulary that I was not prepared for or if it is just the writer’s style. This is the first title I’ve read from this author so I have nothing to compare it to. Cast dialogue was smart and entertaining while the interaction was enjoyable and felt natural. Predictability was quite low. The conclusion provided was solid and satisfying. Overall, I enjoyed the story and the characters very much and would recommend this to fans of MMA, Fighters or Sports Romance. Cast is 18+, Setting is OCONUS, Sex scenes are detailed, language is foul and crass *grins*, and there’s violence (including recaps of physical and sexual violence to a minor and present day physical violence) Two things that were never covered before the end of the book, which kind of really disturbed me: 1) what became of Emily’s mom? and 2) what became of the rings? . Lyrical Life Quote - Fate can be fickle but also a guiding light. The Hurricane is a book that will stay with you and refuse to depart. The event's along with the twists and turns of the novel test both the skill of R.J Prescott, which is easily surpassed and also the central characters. From the damaged and soul-renching events of the past to the trials and dangers of the present, there is barely a moment to take a breath. The character of Emily shows a courage of hope and belief that blend easily with her timid yet strong personality. Her experiences remain in the darkest depths of her mind and despite her effort to move forward, a very real fear resides. Her relationship with gym owner Danny is delicate but also reliable and gives her a solid foundation from which to work. Throughout the book Emily encounters friends which create a quiet beauty that brings fourth both struggles and happiness. The relationship between Emily and Cormac does show a connection of souls and the equal need the two share for one another is clear. His unwavering care and passion for her keep the pages turning without thought. Although Cormac is trapped within a repetitive cycle of which only he can change, he lacks the determination and motivation to do so. His choices are shallow and his life style hollow until Emily. Underneath his careless fascade is a deep loyalty of friendship that also hides his attachment and respect of gym owner danny, who allows some form of stability to enter Cormac's life as well as his friend's. A feeling of pure emotion seems to pour from both Emily and Cormac, but in very different ways which gives the dialogue a truth and perhaps a more powerful delivery. To smile with a warmth in your heart is to read this book.

The story is full of drama, sadness, overcoming the past and making a better life for yourself. The saddest part for me was her mother letting her stepfather do whatever he wanted to her and standing by him. They were so close before her father died and then he came along and her mother just fell apart. When most mothers would be protecting their child this mother more or less said yes beat my child and rapes her in front of me while I close the door and walk away. You can do whatever you want as long as you do not hit me just hit her. Cormac was just living day to day with no thought of tomorrow until he met Em than his life changed as he tried to better his self and make a life for her. I really loved this character he was a protector from the start he gave so much of his self. I really felt bad for him when something happened and he thought it was his fault. No one can be there 24/7. His mother was something else and I was glad to see he saw the true her. Em what can I say about her to have lived through all she had and still have faith in mankind is amazing. I think I would have had to kill the stepfather before I left town. I thought she was a wonderful character picking up her life and moving on getting an education and paying her way was outstanding. I thought the author did a great job her voice was strong and real for the characters. You could feel the emotions as the characters were dealing with the drama. I didn’t hear any background noise just a few places where the audio when from normal to a little louder. The characters emotions were all over the place and I felt she did them very well. I thought the tones were even with you knowing just what each was feeling at any giving minute. Her character voices were good you had no trouble knowing who was talking. Her male to female were nice, she has a very clear easy voice to listen to. I thought she did a good narration with a lovely voice. I thought this was a great plot but could have been made a little shorter. At times I thought not enough information had been given and at other times way too much. It wasn’t a audio I had trouble putting down and coming back to. I did want to know the ending and found it to be an interesting read. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop with her stepfather but the author keep that for later building it up to a wonderful ending. I hope he got what he so richly deserved. It was really a nice second chance story that at times was very touching. I would have liked to have known after so long where the mother stood and how she was doing. I would have also liked to have known what happen 10 years down the road with the main characters. All in all it wasn’t a bad listen I give it a 3.5 starts with a 4.5 for the narration.

Oh, my God! Loved this book! Cormac "Hurricane" O'Connell is a beautiful heartthrob. Where do I start will this sexy, delicious man? I think everywhere, because Cormac has everything I love about an MMA hero. Cormac is rough, hard, and dangerous. He's a keg full of dynamite ready to explode. If I could have a book MMA boyfriend come to life, it would be the Hurricane. Cormac is a hard guy MMA fighter, but when he meets Emily, his ice-hard self melts into a puddle of water. She brings this tough guy’s fighter heart to his knees. Cormac has never known the meaning of love or felt love, until Emily. When Cormac meets Emily, the fight of his life is on to win her heart. Emily is a beautiful steamroller of a girl, and she has claws that she's not afraid of using when it comes to O'Connell. Yeah, Emily is definitely the kind of a woman it will take to tame the storm in Hurricane. Emily McCarthy does not want to be noticed. She’s trying to live her life in the background. And there's a good reason she keeps her distance from people. But when Cormac "Hurricane" O'Connell notices her, he likes what he sees and he wants more. I love the way Cormac loves Emily. This hard man turns into the gentle giant around her. I also love the protectness Cormac has when it comes to Emily. Yes, Cormac won my heart right along with Emily. There are so many more wonderful characters in Hurricane and Em's story that also won my heart. All the MMA fighters at the gym are beautiful men. I highly recommend The Hurricane as an awesome, hot MMA Romance. I can't wait to read round two in Hurricane and Em's story, The Aftermath.

Emily McCarthy is a girl with a damaged soul, that is riddled with haunting memories from her abusive and broken childhood. No matter how hard she tries to bury them, they are always there, lurking in the back of her mind, and causing her to constantly look over her shoulder for fear that they have finally caught up to her again. She tries her best to keep her past at bay by submersing herself into her work and studies, but she knows at some point she is going to have to come up for some air, and attempt to create some normalcy in her life...but the idea of opening herself up to others scares her beyond belief. When one of her customers at the cafe offers her a part time job at his gym, keeping the books, she is hesitant about taking it, the idea of working around a bunch of guys has her wanting to say no and flee the other direction. But she needs the money, and she wants to help him out, so she gives in and takes the position, never expecting it to change the course of her life, and give her the one thing her life has been missing for so! Cormac “the Hurricane” O’Connell submerses himself into his training, to no only keep his mind busy but also keep all of his demons at bay. He maintains a laser focus inside the ring, that is incomparable to his opponents, and is completely dedicated to his fighting career and doesn't let anything stand in the way of him coming home with the win. He is the type of guy that isn't afraid to go after what he wants, so, when he meets the gym's new bookkeeper he immediately knows he wants her, and doesn't hesitate to make that fact known to her, she however, wants nothing to do with him. He sees that as a challenge, and decides that he will stop at nothing to change her mind, even if it means just being her friend. She does something to him that he has never experienced with another woman, which only feeds his desire to want more from her... he just has to convince her that he's worth the risk! As soon as I read the synopsis for this book I knew it was going to be good, and I am happy to report that my instincts were correct, it actually exceeded my expectations!! The chemistry between these two was electric, each encounter they shared was fueled with power and intensity, and several of those times I swear I could literally feels the sparks between them jumping off the pages!! The story line was inventive, engaging, thought provoking, and packed with so much raw emotion that it took my breath away! Definitely one of those reads that will tap into your emotions, have you feeling the intensity of every word typed on the page, and guaranteed to linger with you long after the last page is turned!! Highly recommend you give this read a try, it is sure to take you on one truly exceptional literary escape, and have you looking at fighters in a whole new light!!
