Moriarty has produced a story of which I could instantly recognize real characters; I loved the main character, Ellen O'Farrell is confident, talks to herself and defends her profession which everyone seems to make fun of;including her snotty mother. The drama comes from her current boyfriend and his ex-girlfriend who is now stalking him. She's especially chilling because she's smart and professional most of the time. My only knock is got a bit long. The story ends as you may not expect and the characters are well-defined.

I'm not usually the type to read a love story, but this was my book club's selection for the month. I'm really glad they chose it because I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The characters are so real and filled with emotions we can all relate to on some level.

I was excited to read this novel because I loved What Alice Forgot. This book was not as good as that one, nor was it as well written. It wasn't easy to connect with the characters and the story seemed to drag on a bit. The premise of the story is a good one but it just never reaches the depth of interest or suspense that it potentially could have. The stalker is depicted as a benign individual in my opinion and she seems relatively harmless. In all it is not a horrible read, it just isn't as captivating as it sounds.

Thought provoking and definitely worth reading, but not the author's best work. Check out the guide in the end, even if you're not in a book club. Considering my own answers to the questions made me re-think my reaction to the story.

I found the story quite interesting. Though some of the introspective portions go on a bit long, the story it self is lovely. I enjoyed reading it!

This is an enjoyable and thoughtful read. Good escapist literature that also gives you a different perspective on character and love. Self and otherwise.

A page tuner about the crazy quirks we all have. Exes make us who we are in our current relationships.

Ok, I admit it. I'm on a Liane Moriarty kick. This is the third book I've read by her since the beginning of this year, and at this rate, I'm going to be out of new ones before fireworks season. Dang. If only my favorite authors could write as fast as I can read. What I love about Moriarty is that they are are a welcome modern change to the period-pieces that I usually like, and they are fraught with storylines that are just realistic enough to be plausible, and just imaginative enough to be good escapism. The perfect recipe for a page-turner. In "The Hypnotist's Love Story", Ellen meets Patrick through internet dating, and finds the widower and his son the perfect ready-made family. However, one extra person comes along in the bargain - Patrick has a stalker, Saskia. Complications ensue as Ellen, a hypnotherapist recognizes that one of her clients is Saskia. And, her ethics are stretched as she uses hypnotherapy to help Patrick sleep - while learning things from his subconscious that she wished she didn't know. This sounds like the set-up for "Fatal Attraction", but the subject is light-handedly treated with compassion and widely avoids being called anything close to a "thriller".

I loved this book.  I recently discovered Liane Moriarty, and she has become my favorite author.   The story was fascinating, the characters real and interesting.  The juxtaposition of drama with humor is probably what I enjoy the most.

This is such a wonderful and engaging story. The protagonist, the hypnotist, Ellen, is so charming and easy to like. There is also enough of a mystery and a little twist that kept me reading late into the night.

It wasn't the worst book I've ever read. It def. was not my favorite. The idea of the book is really cool. The love story part of it is awful.  I had a hard time liking any of the characters. The main character is all over the place. The stalker is probably what kept me turning pages but even that got boring.

This was an enjoyable and easy read. I had to laugh in the beginning because the main character Ellen overanalyzes her new relationship like any woman would. (What does this mean? What does that mean?). It's about obsessing over old boyfriends, trying to relate to a non-traditional mother, and keeping female friendships. I really like this author.

A very good read. A perfect diversion.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. There were several little sub plots that kept the story interesting. However, it did get a little repetitive which made the book longer than necessary.

Loved the way the author revealed both the hypnotist's thoughts and the stalker's perspective. More than a romance. Themes of parenting, loss, self-awareness, self-deception, death, family relationships, and more. Excellent author. Read also "Big Little Lies" & "Truly Madly Guilty."
