This is Jim Adams' personal memoir of the restoration of the General Warren Tavern in Boston's Charlestown section. An Irish enclave and a rough area with the el rumbling through it, restoration was far from easy. Criminals and politicians mixed and revolved around the place as it became the unofficial town hall. Surviving meant dealing and paying off. He was robbed, bombed, and shot at. Great fun for history buffs wanting stories of the real Boston.

The Immortal Tavern by Jim Adams is a delightful read. From the first chapter telling the 'wine story' right through to 'last call', the book is amusing at times, and highly entertaining. Rich in colorful characters, little known history, politics and witty storytelling, it was reminiscent of Rick's Club in the movie 'Casablanca', and the camaraderie found in 'Cheers' and 'Mash'. It made me wish I could pull up a stool and join in the fun!
