It felt good to return to the world of the 'Border Worlds Saga' even knowing this is the final book. I needed to see Vernon and Drake win this horrible war that began at the end of the previous book. I needed to see their egg hatch and I wanted them to continue together. Mostly, though, I wanted to see them defeat the The Priory, the Priaxians who had turned traitor against their own kind and ended up decimating their world. "For four long years, the alliance of mammals and spiders fought as best we could. Sure, our strength came through because of our adversity, but we were fighting a losing battle." In the four years of war the Priaxians have managed to cobble together some of Earth's technology but no one has the sheer force of the Herdsmen, and they definitely don't have the magnosphere technology that shields all of the Herdsmen's fleet against any harm. Drake, Vernon, and their small but loyal crew come up with what could be either a suicide plan or a brilliant maneuver. They just have to sneak on board a Herdsmen vessel and steal the information they need. An ally on board the ship comes to their aid…an ally they weren't expecting. This ally, the leader of The Priory, has spent the past four years working silently against the Herdsmen. The Priory now understand that the Herdsmen were only using them and the lives they wish for, to be a servant and a nourisher, can not be accomplished. But they've discovered something else that they want even more and it means keeping humanity alive so they can experience the joys of symbiotic relationships. A very exciting space battle and fabulous Vernon giving birth during it provided an exciting finale. I loved this trilogy and everything about the series. Thank you to the author for this stunning final installment.
