This beautiful work has illustrated a phenomenal voyage of truth and wisdom of the ages. The marvelous adventure herein transports the reader to places only few have traversed. The history described within it's enchanted pages transforms the individual into a participant of the sacred. The practices shared, as shared throughout generations, transcends the human being toward the continued evolution of his divine nature. As an interested observer of the human condition, I have found that this magnificent teacher, student, holy one, inspires hope, defines purpose and gives meaning to these otherwise mundane lives; offering freedom to the soul and giving a confined spirit the ability to fly.

WOW! This book was recommended by the professor of my humanities class. I have read books on Africa and India but this one had 'on the edge of my seat anticipation'. I felt like I experienced the pilgrimage with Dr. Donald Schnell. What a way to learn! I learned about customs, religion, beliefs and ways of life. My professor said he is taking the book to the American Association of University Professors and the National Association of American Colleges and recommending that they use it in their curriculum for all students of religion, philosophy, humanities and history. Waiting with anticipation for more. Keep up the good work!

As an attorney I am forced to deal with tons of negativity in the lives of the clients I serve. For years I have studied meditation and I have read books like Autobiography of a Yogi, The Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman, Deepok Chopra, and books by Wayne Dwyer. This is by far the best book I have ever read. There is some sort of a mystical power that comes with this book and helps you to achieve an almost instant enlightenment and direct perception of higher reality. Donald Schnell travels to india and he takes us along on a trip that leads us to higher realms. He takes you up and then he gently brings you back to where you are experiencing God, right here, right now, while you are reading the book. When you put the book down you realize your understanding and awareness of higher beings is changed for good. This is a life changing book!!! Everybody tells me I look different, younger, more powerful, and very very happy. I laugh a lot these days and what I use to think was negativity is now a ride of joy. Thank-you Donald Schnell. I plan to forward a copy of your book to the a local group of attorneys. This book is a must read for all professionals, it should be required reading!

It is probably not a common occurrence for one who has written the forword to a book to feel compelled to also write a review, but I cannot ignore my deep desire to share with others the profound effect The Initiation can have on their lives. Spiritual study and practice have been my avocation for over twenty years. Yet never before has any book touched my heart and enhanced my life more deeply and completely. The tender, almost child-like way that miracles and mysteries are accounted paved the way in my own experience for miracles I never thought possible. The book opened my eyes to the beautiful world of the unseen that guides us every step of the way as we evolve spiritually. If you feel alone or if you hunger spiritually, you MUST read this book. I learned more in one reading about what we are evolving TOWARD than I learned in twenty years of study of untold numbers of books. Each time I reread The Initiation, I am happier, more confident and more able to share my love as a result of this author's amazing ability to share his wondrous spiritual initiation. If it's love you want, and a greater spiritual insight, this book is an URGENT MUST-READ! I invite you to join the many of us who now work to bring more love to the Earth as a result of the reading of The Initiation.

As editor of The Celestine View, I'm one considered enlightened to the mystical side of this world, though I still consider myself a skeptic. The truth of Prema Baba Swamiji's words shine through this wonderful book. Thank you so much Swamiji for having the courage to tell your story as it happened and not tone it down as to make it believable to skeptics such as myself. The truth within has made the extraordinary believable for me.

...it has changed mine. After reading this book, I have been guided to the answers to many of my important life questions. Everyone to whom I have recommended 'The Initiation' has been touched in some positive way. For some it is the beginning of opening the mind and heart. For others it has helped in their search for the Truth - that golden thread that runs through all world's true religions and spiritual philosophies.

Remember the first book that you read that you just could not get out of your mind? That is the impact that The Initiation has had on me and my life. I find myself during the day trying to stay in the moment and enjoy the beauty around me instead of worrying about my next meeting or what I was going to prepare for dinner. Swamy's journey to his Initiation was a calling to everyone who reads this book. I always thought that a better job, a different church, a new home would bring me the peace that I needed to enjoy the blessed life that I have. I didn't know that the answer would be within me. It is inside all of us. I feel like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz when she woke up in her own bed and said, 'The next time I go looking for heart's own desire, I won't look any farther than my own backyard.' Take this journey with Swamy and his beautiful Leela and just try to look at life the same way.

Every once in while a book comes along that feels like an explosion of light and sound. When that happens, I pay attention. The Initiation is one of those books. The story in The Initiation tells about Donald Schnell¹s trip to India, meeting with the deathless Maha Avatar, Babaji, and ultimate initiation into the Ancient Order of Swamys as Prema Baba Swamiji; It has all the power of Autobiography of a Yogi, yet the events it describes occurred in 1997 to a Westerner who is alive and willing to witness to the story. Prema Baba Swamiji¹s adventures are recounted with great sensitivity, humor and candor.

The Initiation is a very enjoyable book to read for many reasons. While it is autobiographical -- the story of the author's initiation by his guru -- it is much more than that. It combines the story of a seeker's journey to find himself, and takes us along with him in his forays into the spiritual side of India. We meet the eternal Babaji, connect with Kali, the Divine Mother, we travel in India with the elusive Babu, and even more, we connect with our own spirituality as Babaji and his teachers answer the deep questions we may or may not have formulated ourselves at some point. As you read of Dr. Schnell's voyage into himself and into the center of love, you also voyage alongside. The book may read as easily as a novel, but is packed with spiritual insights and understanding like a hefty spiritual tome. While the book may be the story of Dr. Schnell's transformation into Prema Baba Swamiji, it is really about each one of us, and our transformation into the Divinity we truly are.

'The Initiation' is truly a stirring and captivating spiritual account of one man's incredible journey to India, ending in a momentous meeting with one of Earth's most elusive Spiritual Giants, the Immortal Babaji! A classic read for the Spirit.

As a student of religion and philosophy, I was struck by how perfectly The Initiation combines ancient mystical practices with a fun to read, thoroughly modern story. This book carries the reader into a timeless realm of magical teachers and occurrences. Thought the story is set in India, the author shares his adventures in a way easily understood by any American. Finally a book that shares Yoga and Eastern Religion without making the reader feel like these things are for exotic cultures and not Westerners! My praises to the author! Great job.
