Consultation has long been a topic of key importance in U.S. School Psychology and has recently gained more attention in Educational Psychology worldwide. This handbook coheres leading research on the topic from all over the world, providing researchers and students, a foundationally global perspective on consulation in educational settings. In twenty-three chapters from leading experts, on the theory and practice of consultation.

The increasing diversity of the U.S. population has brought to the foreground the need to emphasize and promote multicultural competence in training, theory, and practice of school psychologists. Specifically, the number of immigrant families and children, as well as the population of people of ethnic minority backgrounds living in the United States continues to rise. Similar findings and themes are identified across different countries, as immigration has been an integral part of many countries’ historical past. These rapid changes have caused a growing concern due to the limitations of traditional psychoeducational services to address the increase of children’s mental health problems in all developed and developing countries and special emphasis has been placed on consultation services for the promotion of children’s well-being.

Sylvia Rosenfield is Professor Emerita and former Co-Director of the Lab for IC Teams at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA.
