About the Author

Over three decades, Tim Plumptre has worked in the nonprofit sector in many roles: as a CEO, a director, a board chair, a consultant to numerous organizations, a community volunteer, a funder, and as the founder of the nonprofit Institute On Governance. His work has carried him to every province and territory of Canada, to indigenous communities in the high north, and to over 35 countries.

His earlier book, Beyond the Bottom Line: Management in Government became a best-seller within 3 months and was reviewed as "splendid": innovative, insightful, and a "must-buy" for "any senior government official, or anyone aspiring to be one."

Previous to much of his involvement in the nonprofit sector, Tim worked as a journalist for The Globe and Mail, as an assistant to a federal cabinet minister and a deputy minister, and as a consultant to a wide range of public sector organizations at the federal, provincial, territorial, and municipal levels. His education has included studies at the University of Toronto (Honours BA, political science and economics), the London School of Economics (MSc, Econ), and Oxford University (Certificate in Management Studies)....
