Miss Philippa Peppiwell is fleeing a scandal. An American heiress from Boston living in Victorian England, her family’s money is “new money” and, thus, snubbed and belittled by London high society. But her family has high hopes for their daughters to make titled matches and thus advance their station. But Philippa does not ever wish to marry and distrusts the intentions of all men after her one great disappointment. Her cold reserve and austere beauty—despite her red hair—have earned her the moniker of “ice maiden,” but she is merely protecting her vulnerability behind a wall. This works with most of the eligible suitors but does not, however, deter the determined Anthony Thornton, brother to the reluctant Duke of Calydon. At first, Philippa is merely another woman he must have and they embark on a passionate affair, but Anthony soon changes his mind. She is “irresistible” and, when she refuses his hand in marriage, he single-mindedly pursues her, despite the scandalous secrets they both hold dear. The sex is graphic but tastefully done as it portrays their deep attraction, both physically and emotionally. Though the burning sexual tension that Reid creates really simmers throughout this short romance, the ending seems a little abrupt with its uneasy and unrealistic resolution. It goes along at a nice and lovely pace for most of the story, but then seems to rush through the ending, somewhat disrupting the easy flow of the book. Nevertheless, this does not detract from the book and I very much enjoyed the writing, the storyline, and the depiction of Victorian London society and fashion in the 1880s. The romance is both erotic and sweet and Philippa and Anthony are likeable characters. Anthony is a sensual man with very strong sexual passions that have turned off many women and mistresses in his past. This confused me because many men took mistresses at this time to indulge in the rougher bed play they felt uncomfortable with their wives, so why did it shock his mistresses, who are usually considered bolder women by society’s standards? There is no bondage and only some minor spanking in this book, but nothing overtly unorthodox in my opinion. But Philippa is an adventurous woman who wants to explore life (and sex) and she finds such a match with Anthony. He protects her and cares for her when she is in danger, he is thoughtful and loving to his brother, his younger sister, mother and, eventually, his father. He is everything a gentleman should be, including honorable and protective. He just happens to enjoy adventurous sex (and so does she). Wink. There is a nasty villain in Lord Orwell with a rather loose thread by the end of the book. The writing is strong and suspenseful—especially a very frightening scene involving Lord Orwell and  Philippa. This is the second book in a series called The House of Calydon, but the events of book one take place after book two, so this reads as a standalone. A wonderfully readable and sexy romance. Fans of Sabrina Darby and Monica Burns and those who like their romance on the spicier side may enjoy Stacy Reid. Note: this review first appeared on Romantic Historical Reviews.

I am a new reader of Ms. Reid and now a new adoring fan reader of Ms. Reid!  I absolutely adored The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell!   From the first chapter, I was instantly intrigued by the secrets and needed to read more.  Ms. Reid does a magnificent job in describing the perfect amount of detail without being overdone.  Phillipa aka the “Ice Maiden” is such a complex but relatable character with emotions and thoughts that were not as acceptable in her day.  Her “unfortunate incident” makes her even more racy and scandalous to a proper London scene.  Lord Anthony has his own secrets to hide; some of his family doing and some of his own. Together their heat and passion had me turned on and turning pages at a fast and furious pace.  I can only hope Ms. Reid will delve into Constance’s story and make it just as hot and juicy as Miss Peppiwell’s secrets and desires…

What do you get with when a sexy lord uses silky ties to bound an American heiress wrists together & gives her the greatest pleasures she has ever know? This PANTIE MELTING romance read by STACY REID! Lord Anthony was born as the 2nd son of the Duke of Calydon, but after his Father's death, he is devastated by the news of illegitimate births of himself & younger sister & their disinheritances. His older brother, Sebastian, is the new duke & loves them the same no matter who their father is, but lays all blame at his faithfulness mother's feet. Anthony also has another secret that has lived inside him for years, his dark desire for submission. He has lost many mistresses to his spanking, bondage & other dark desires he craves with all his soul. Anthony is ready to settle down & maybe he can find a friend who is willing to submit to him & his desires. Miss Phillipa Peppiwell is the reigning Ice Maiden of the ton & no one can get pass her icy shield without getting frostbite. Phillipa is in London with her dad, mom & her sisters, Payton & Phoebe, because of her "Unfortunate Incident" in Boston. She feels the "Unfortunate Incident" was her greatest adventure & the first of many. She gave her virginity to be best friend, Brandon, & was slapped by her father, compared to a harlot & banished them all to England to save her family's name. Now she is the Ice Maiden, so no one will ever hurt her again as the slimy Lord Orwell did when he learned she was unclean for marriage, but just right to be his mistress. Anthony is mesmerized with the golden red halo of hair on the head of the woman with the most luscious lips & his body commands him across the ballroom to meet her. Phillipa knows this green eyed gentleman will be all the other fops in London, but his voice sends the most titillating shivers down her spine & down to her pleasure center. Anthony is delighted to hear her American accent & is instantaneous all in for this adventure. Just 1 kiss is all that is needed to ignite temptations between them. Lord Orwell is a toad of a man, watching Phillipa 24/7 & Anthony is going to protect her from him if he must. When out in the garden at a ball, Anthony's dreams come true when Phillipa allows him to tie her hands up & give her pleasure with his commanding caresses & compelling lips. She will not marry him, but will be his lover. Anthony wants more than a lover, he wants his soul mate. With a kidnapping, a hero's saving the damsel in distress, a night of unleashed passions, Phillipa's willing sexual surrender, many marriage offers by different suitors, rumors galore, a pissed off Duke, 2 heartbroken sisters & a wide approving smile for an unexpected dad to begin Phillipa & Anthony into one another's arms. Can Phillipa submit Anthony & his many dark desires? Will Anthony's birth push her away or make her love him more? When will Anthony realize that she will completes him? Will Phillipa discover that her submission is the perfect gift she can give him? Can I cut the slimy Lord Orwell with a rusty knife & watch the gangrene set in PRETTY PLEASE? This is my 1st Stacy Reid romance read & I was in love before the end of the 1st chapter. Anthony was a great hero with a desire of BDSM that was probably common place in 1882 London, just not talked about. Anthony had a great support system with his older brother & little sister unconditional love & who their fathers were didn't make them any less than family. Scandals & rumors didn't cross their family bounds. Phillipa had a harder time with family because of her "Unfortunate Incident" & her family crumbled under scandals & rumors, but 1 member did give her a thumbs up with his gentle smile I felt down in my own heart. Ms. Reid can write erotic temptations that had my Kindle spark up & burn my panties along the way. I loved the Duke's story (The Duke's Shotgun Wedding) running in the background of this sizzling read. Did I mention the white hot glow of lust in this romance read? This was a racy, spicy & utterly decadent guilty pleasure I will enjoy again & again. Ms. Reid was a great cast of unique characters that I hope to read about in future books, like little sister Connie & her 1st Season after the rumor of her birth are out. Ms. Reid also tells an extend version (just like a DVD with a extended scenes) that describe more of their adventures until the words state THE END! I must give Ms. Reid (insert pompoms here) my top score of 5 fingers up & 10 toes for this romance tale with ties of silk, love play with bondage & a burning ecstasy filled with true acceptance! NetGalley ARC given for my honest review.

This is part of the House of Calydon series. Phillipa Pippiwell is known as the Ice Maiden, but that doesn't stop Lord Anthony Thornton from being intrigued. Phillipa has no desire to marry and is doing her best to keep her suitors away, but Anthony sees something other than the chilly reception she gives most of the ton.  Having made the decision that he must marry, Anthony doesn't want to settle for some simpering you miss. But can he convince Phillipa that marriage to him would be better than life on her own? I LOVED this story!!! I liked that Phillipa didn't want to be like all the other ladies out in society and that Anthony was the one that wanted to settle down and not her. The chemistry between Phillipa and Anthony is VERY hot!!! Between that and the excitement of the "bad guy", you have the perfect story. I can't wait to read more by this author. Thanks got to Entangled Publishing via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

The strict rules of propriety play an important part in this story. Lord Anthony Thornton just learned that he and his sister are illegitimate. Both will be cast out by their peers if their secret is revealed. When Anthony meets Miss Phillipa Peppiwell, he is attracted by her. He has met a kindred spirit and the love of his life. She wants to break free of her restraints and have adventures, but she has a secret that she needs to protect. She is not a virgin. Will these two be able to find happiness and love with each other? Stacy Reid has given us two complex and powerful characters that are trapped by what society rules as proper conduct. The story had an intriguing and thought provoking plot as well as a passionate romance. I cared for Anthony and Phillipa. They are fierce in their determination to be their own person. The secondary characters add to the story. I definitely want to know more about how Constance deals with the changes in her life. The dialogue and setting were a perfect backdrop for this book. I couldn't stop reading. I had to know what would happen next. There was so much action. I loved The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell.

With a longing for adventure, the last thing Phillipa Peppiwell wants is to marry. After a painful betrayal by a man she trusted, she is wary when she unwittingly catches the attention of roguishly handsome - and sinfully tempting - Lord Anthony Thornton. Forbidden desires she secretly yearns for threaten to crumble her icy facade and reveal a past scandal best kept buried.  Dissatisfied with his empty life, Lord Anthony seeks a deep and lasting connection... and finds himself intrigued by the Ice Maiden of the haute monde. Undaunted by Phillipa's aloof nature and her distaste for the idea of matrimony, he sets out to thaw the bewitching beauty by enticing her with adventures of the most sensual type. But he, too, hides a scandalous secret... and if it's discovered it could rip them apart. Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this story and found a new Author to read in the process! This is story about the romance of Phillipa and Anthony, who both have secrets that could destroy their and their families standings in society.  I thought it was well thought out and expertly written.  I was totally engrossed from beginning to the end. I have to say I was not sure what to make of Phillipa at first, but as I got to know her you can totally understand where she is coming from.  I liked that she was trying to buck the system and be independent in a time where that was frowned upon.  Anthony on the other hand Loved him from the get go.  He is dashing, smart, a bit of a rogue and then throw in the dominant side of him and Whoa Momma!  I loved their chemistry, I thought it was realistic and lovely to read and their intimate scenes had me fanning myself.  I would love to see what happens to them and what adventures they go on.  As far as bad guys, I think Lord Orwell is perfectly dastardly and I wanted to shoot him myself. I had no idea this was a second book until I started writing my review and saw "The Duke's Shotgun Wedding", though you read about Sebastian and Jocelyn at the end of this story, I am definitely going to pick it up because there is another couple with some serious chemistry. 4.5Stars

A charming, sweet, and utterly enjoyable historical romance, The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell was simply lovely. I really liked this fabulous book. Phillipa was a likable heroine. She was an independently minded person who chafed against the confines of society. She wanted to travel the world to get away from those rules, but once she met Anthony, she was clever enough to realize that that wasn't the only way to find freedom. I thought she was a lovely character Anthony was wonderful. Very sweet and loyal to the people he cared about. And, once he knew he wanted something, he wasted no time in going after it. He was a perfect hero. The romance was both sweet and steamy. Phillipa and Anthony were perfectly matched, both dancing to the beat of their own tune and unwilling to let society tell them differently. And, they had some seriously hot chemistry that turned the heat level up. They were a lovely couple. The plot moved quickly and I was hooked the entire way through. The story was light, sweet, and I enjoyed every bit of it. And, the ending was just perfect. The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell was a fantastic historical romance. It was a lovely read that I thoroughly enjoyed. Romance lovers, this is a book you'll definitely want to check out. *I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Ice queen with a secrets meets meets wealthy younger son with a son and sparks fly. They are drawn together by chemistry and by avoiding a creepy associate of her fathers. Anthony has decided he is interested in finding a bride and Phillipa has caught his interest. They overcome family, secrets and staplers to find their happily ever after.  I enjoyed the story and would read more from this author. I received a free copy for an honest review.

As much as I adore historical romances, there two things I despise: the low opinion society had of women who weren’t “pure”, and the low treatment of children born as bastards. That being said, I liked this book. *chuckles* It’s because of those two aspects that I like this book. Phillipa doesn’t give a damn about society, its rules, or what’s expected of her. Her icy persona hides a heart filled with desire, a mind overflowing with dreams, and a spirit that won’t bend without a fight. But it also hides a truth she fled Boston to hide: she is not a virgin. Anthony is drawn to the Ice Maiden for reason he can’t name. Born a bastard, he struggles to hide his true parentage even as he tries to discover who Phillipa Peppiwell really is. He isn’t fooled by her aloofness, not after he’s glimpsed the fiery woman underneath. The most stunning part of the story is when they face what the other has tried to hide. Their reaction and acceptance made me cheer and laugh, because it was a huge middle finger to society as a whole. The only downside was how it would affect their respective families. It made me wonder if Ms. Reid will pen their stories as well? I hope so! An enchanting tale of attraction, lust, and love that pushes the boundaries of convention and brings utter joy and completion to two incredible characters. Well done, Ms. Reid. I can’t wait to read Constance’s story, which I do hope you write! ***Received from Entangled Publishing for an honest review***

I loved the flow of the story, and how quickly I became invested in the characters. I adored Anthony. He was sweet, charming, but with that edginess of an alpha male and definitely yummy. He made the story came alive for me and kept me hooked. He wasn't your typical male that had tons of mistresses and did not want a wife.He actually wanted a family, but had a scandal in his closet that could affect his pursuit of any respectable lady. Of course he saw Phillipa Peppiwell at a ball and instant attraction...he then spoke with her and then the fun ensued. I really enjoyed his pursuit of her and Phillipa eventual surrender was sweet and hot. Phillipa herself was a pretty good character...with her own secrets. I liked her..she was willful, passionate, and charming in her own way. She did frustrate me a few times especially her refusal to marry someone as scrumptious as Anthony, but I did understand her fear and insecurities and that only made me cheer for her to have her happy ever after even more. I also got to spend more time with Sebastian. I loved him from the first book but I had wanted a little bit more of him. I felt like I got that closure. LOL. I am also highly anticipating their sister Constance's story. Heat levels very steamy :)

Stacy Reid’s The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell is set in London in 1882. Lord Anthony Thornton from the House of Calydon, has never seen anyone with vivid golden-red hair like Phillipa Peppiwell’s. He asks for an introduction from a friend, who laughs at him and tells him that is the Ice Maiden. Since her family has moved from Boston, Phillipa has erected a wall around her and appears untouchable. Needless to say Lord Anthony sees a spark under the façade. He is intrigue by her. Both of them set each other’s blood boiling. They are perfect for each other. Of course there is so much more to this like the stalker who kidnaps Phillipa; and the secrets both Phillippa and Anthony have that they believe could ruin them. This story has many surprises waiting for the reader. Enjoy! Received copy from Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

First of all let me just say that I love the cover and the book as well. Story is good and all the characters, especially Phillipa, are likable. She is strong, passionate and adventurous, which makes her a perfect female lead character in my humble opinion. I also liked the fact that the book was well paced and kept me entertained until the very end. I recommend it to all historical romance lovers. It's a must read novel. Lord Anthony is looking for a bride and Miss Peppiwell is not interested in marriage. But they are a perfect couple. The chemistry between them is undeniable and scorching hot. Anthony is Alpha at heart but he has an honourable and sensitive side too. While Phillipa is cold and closed off, very few know that she has an adventurous and rebellious side too. Both have a dislike for society's rules. They do not want to bend to society's will and want a life where they can have freedom to choose whatever way they want to live. They want to be scandalous. Although they have lived very different lives, they are very similar in many ways. That's the reason why Anthony is sure that Miss Peppiwell is a perfect bride for him. Now the trouble is that she doesn't agree and it will not be easy to convince her. Phillipa is wary of men and she doesn't want to get married to one. She thinks that marriage will bind her and make it impossible to have the freedom she so craves. She loves Anthony but all she wants is to be his friend and lover. She is definitely not looking to wed. But when she is taken by crazy/nasty Lord Orwell, things change. She saw a side of Anthony she hadn't before and it just might convince her to accept his marriage proposal after all.

Really liked this book. What I loved was the conversations between Anthony and Phillipa. I like wit and banter in books and not just a whole lot of internal monologue. So I appreciated that. I liked Anthony determination in pursuing Phillipa. I could identity with seeing a good woman, a sexy one and wanting her for yourself. I also liked the need in him to protect her, and the lengths he went to to ensured her safety. The sex between the characters was also intense and well executed.  I quiet enjoyed book overall.
