I finished reading the Jade Chalice last week and wanted to drop you a line to express my pleasure with the book and the characters you've developed. I was caught up in the story from the moment I read the first page. You are able to illuminate a part of Church history through the unfolding of these story lines that I didn't personally live through but was very intrigued by. You also touched upon the unending organizational and human challenge regarding control and conformity vs. freedom and diversity. You see those themes operating in China's politics, within the Church and at a personal level with the characters. Although the story takes place in the late 30s/early 40s, it is so relevant today. The ending brought it all together in the mystery of the sacrament of the Eucharist. The human desire to freely put each of ourselves forward and in an act of solidarity celebrate the faith reality that we are all part of a divine mystery with God as our center and that we truely belong to each other as brothers and sisters. The celebration of that sacrament became a visable means for those participating or observing to witness to a simple expression of human freedom and faith. There are many more thoughts and feelings that the book has stirred up for which I am deeply grateful. You should feel great pride in realizing this lifelong dream. It is a beautiful gift that you have shared with us. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to meet you and members of your family.

Recent religious 'faction' best-sellers have novel readers looking for the truth behind on every page, in every scene, and in each character's words and actions. The Jade Chalice, written by Rudolph J. Girandola leaves me wondering how much of the gut-wrenching and love-torn chapters were pulled biographically. Once I picked up this book, I could not stop turning the pages till I sadly came to the last page. Depicting the gamut of real human emotions of love and lust, competition and comraderie, to angst and anger, conviction and victory, this book will make you laugh, snicker, wince and sob with each twisting chapter. You will empathize with Neal Langland's struggle with his religious devotion and determination in being a good Catholic in the modern world. This novel unfolds the inner workings of a normal young man's journey in becoming a Roman Catholic priest and ultimately, a willing martyr. Langland's struggle between humanity and divinity proves the ultimate destiny of every person's spirituality, no matter what their faith is, is to live each day. This book is destined to become an epic mini-series if Hollywood is smart. It is an excellent read for the pre-Vatican II, World War II and Korean War generation and a must read for every Roman Catholic.

THE JADE CHALICE lifts the veil that has long concealed the humanity and the holiness of the Catholic priesthood. The story is a global three-fold love story between a man and a woman, a man and his faith and a man and the priesthood. Thoughtful and riveting reading for any Catholic who may have forgotten the majesty of their faith. It moves you on a well crafted global journey from tears, to laughter, and maybe even to your knees. Well worth a second read.

The Jade Chalice is a story crafted over forty years. It is a contemporary story which draws on events spanning 100 years and two continents. This story explores the depths of a man and his faith, a people and their government, and reaches a crescendo of sublime love between a man and a women. The Jade Chalice is written by a man who takes an unflinching look at the church he loves and teases apart the many threads that bind together contemprary church doctrine. Where does man's law end and God's begin? What is love? What is integrity? What are values to hold dear and artificial boundaries that destroy? These questions and more are taken hold of and looked at as one might explore the facets of a diamond. Read the first chapter, feel the cold wind ripping down a mountain pass and through a lone building and feel the way the author masters every element of story telling and you won't want to stop reading until you know the fate and faith of all those involved.

The Jade Chalice runs the gamut of religious experience and attitude through clergy behavior and training. It shows how beliefs can direct a person's life toward good or evil. The development of characters, both American and Oriental, portrayed in the book make them real and lifesize in the imagination as they all move toward the explosive climax of The Jade Chalice. It has all the conflict for a great movie.

This book tells a stunning love story that explains so much of the confusion in the Church today. It shows how, no matter where life takes us, we have choices to make that sometimes rip us apart, but always have serious consequences. These characters could be anywhere or in any faith that seeks goodness. It would make a great movie.
