The Jilted by Meghan O'Flynn

A violent history lurks beneath the white-washed facade of Cicatrice, Louisiana. And that evil is waking up.

"An expertly layered work of impressive scope, The Jilted will leave you pondering the real-life differences between good and evil."

~Kristen Mae, bestselling author of Red Water

It's been two weeks since Chloe Anderson's fiancé, Victor, disappeared with his daughter, and each night since, Chloe has awakened from the same horrible dream. She's convinced the nightmares are trying to tell her something, especially when she finds Victor's camera at an old antique shop downtown--a place where the shadows of the past roam the cobbled streets.

Chloe takes a job at the shop, hoping Victor will return for his prized possession. But when she's sent to do an antiques appraisal on the outskirts of New Orleans, she feels the energy of the sprawling plantation like an icy hand on her back, drawing her away from the shop--and sucking her in. Perhaps it's the plantation's mysterious owner triggering her long-dormant intuition. But intuition doesn't explain the terrifying visions that now plague her waking hours, or the mutilated girl who stalks her from the shadows, vanishing when Chloe tries to speak to her. And the voices . . .

Come to me.
Watch out for the dark, child.

Is this what Victor meant when he told her he'd felt possessed? Is she losing her mind the way he did?

Now Chloe must look deep within herself, summoning a power she's tamped down since childhood, because the thing that took Victor is an old, vicious darkness, far more ancient than the horrors that seep from every branch on the white-washed plantation--more appalling than the hideous acts of violence that lurk in each long-abandoned cemetery. And if she cannot defeat the evil, if she succumbs to the madness, the creature stalking the town will take Victor, take Chloe . . . and make sure no one leaves Cicatrice alive.

About the Author

Meghan O’Flynn is a clinical therapist, writer, artist, wife, and mom. She adores her amazing little boys, dark chocolate, tea, dirty jokes, and back rubs with no strings attached, in that order. Meghan is the bestselling author of the Ash Park series—which includes Famished, Conviction, Repressed, Hidden and Redemption—and has penned a number of short stories including “Crimson Snow” and "Alien Landscape." She is frankly amazed that her wonderful husband still agrees to live with her after reading them and even more shocked that he seems to sleep soundly.

The Jilted: A Novel by Meghan O’Flynn is an amazing rollercoaster ride of horror and suspense that is guaranteed to make you hide from the dark. Following the story of Chloe, and her personal battle between good and evil. The reader gets to see inside her mind and travel with her while she attempts to understand her nightmares and the hidden meanings in them. Set in New Orleans there is a serious undertone of the occult and darkness and pure evil that surrounds Chloe. It will take everything good inside of her to claw her way back to the light, but can she trust those that are around her? Will the disappearance of her fiancé and his daughter break her? There are so many questions about Chloe’s past and inner demons that the reader has to wade through to get to the truth that this book will keep you guessing for way longer than I had expected. There is something that calls to Chloe, that beckons her into the darkness inside her, but can she give in or is something more sinister at play in her life? I recommend reading this book in one sitting otherwise you will be dying to know how it ends! O’Flynn is a new to me author who I am so happy I took a chance on. Her writing style pulled me in from the first page and didn’t let go until I was beyond the last page. This is definitely a book that will give you a chill and make you run from the dark. If you are looking for a book that will stay with you long after the cover closes than this is one that you need to add to your cart today!

The Jilted is a mind blowing horror story by Meghan O’Flynn. It is a supernatural story and it scared the pants off me! I generally do not read horror as I cannot handle it too well (too faint hearted I guess) but reading that she writes in the style of Stephen King, I decided to give a go and man … the story blew my mind! The main character of the story is Chloe and we follow her on her journey into the nightmare and I am telling you, the ending throws you for a loop! The nightmare is filled with drama, darkness, evil …. I suggest you do not read this story in the evening in the dark! You will start listening for every weird sound and you will be checking over and over again if your door is locked and … I think you could say that the main theme of the story is the battle between the evil and good and it is a battle that we all fight day in and out … hopefully we do not need to go as far as it went in the story … it will mess with your mind though so be aware … I wish you luck with keeping things straight and figuring it all out!

I give The Jilted: A Novel by Meghan O'Flynn, 4 stars. Chloe thought her fiance was losing his mind, talking about demons. But ever since he disappeared, she can no longer be sure. She has been experiencing things that question everything she has ever known. Not to mention it seems that there really are evil things out there. Can she stop whatever is going on? And what price does she have to pay? This is one of those books that messes with your mind, and does such a superb job at it. You will be second guessing everything yourself as you delve deeper into this crazy world. The story is a little hard to get into at first, but that is the point. You are dealing with a woman who doesn't even know herself if she's losing her mind. Once you get into it a bit, you will follow it better and not be able to put it down until the end. But good luck figuring everything out -- there are so many twists and turns in this story, you will be dizzy by the time you finish it. This is a perfectly written book of psychological horror and I highly recommend it.

The Jilted- Meghan O’Flynn 4-star review The Jilted by Meghan O’Flynn is a story that had me sitting on the edge of my seat from start to finish. This story is dark, twisted, haunting and so full of evil! I have never read a book quite like this on, this author took me on an emotional roller coaster ride with this intense storyline! Everything is so brilliantly detailed which painted such a clear picture in my head, which certainly made it an entertaining read as Meghan vividly describes scenes that will probably give me nightmares. I loved how absolutely terrifying this storyline is and how I was able to get so lost in the story that I forgot about the outside world and read this book in one sitting. This is certainly a story that I would recommend to anyone looking for a truly shocking and unforgettable read. I look forward to reading more of Meghan’s work in the future!!

Hoooooleeeeeee crap, this story really got under my skin! INTENSE creepy factor, multi-layered, supernatural horror. Brought me back to the days when I'd stay up till the wee hours of the morning reading Stephen King novels - I'd pay for the lack of sleep the next day, but it was SO worth it! I'm a fan of O'Flynn already, but this moved my fandom to a new level. I love horror and this author's story crafting is as good as it gets. The characters and particularly the New Orleans setting make for a visceral experience that'll stick with you for d-a-y-s after you finish it

Man I don't know what's worse, knowing how this ends or loving how this ends. This author weaves such a twisted mindf$uck of a story that you can't possibly guess what's going on until you're told. The things the mind can convince you of. The twisted thinkings of a lost soul. The lies we tell ourselves about situations and incidents. What's really real and what's just in your heads. The battle between good and evil is something we will war against til the end of days. The individual battles will be on a smaller scale but does that make them any less critical. Chloe is in the midst of a battle. In order to figure out what type of battle you will need to read this for yourself. With this author things are rarely what they seem and this book is no different. As I was reading I was glad it wasn't one of those dark blustery nights when the house is making noises it isn't supposed to. Yea it's that kind of read. The kind that makes you hyper aware of everything and every sound. Awesome read.
