The Jonah Man based on 0 ratings. 2 reviews.
I found this book to be very well written by an author who knows his facts and can weave an interesting plot. Jake Gamble is a great protagonist full of spunk but very human. The unexpected twist at the end will let you know that the Jack Denson knows his 'stuff'!
The Jonah Man is Jack Denson¿s second novel. Those of us who know Dr. Denson as the epitome of the learned man of words and a true sage, know that The Jonah Man is his ¿first¿ novel. It was a labor of love that required many years of meticulous crafting to finally ¿please¿ this gifted writer. Written in the first person the story takes the reader through that painful period of social/political ¿adjustment¿ of the late sixties and early seventies, although it reads very well considering the current presidential race with its myriad of candidates of all races. Jake Gamble is a terrific protagonist. A man of sublime culture and wit with excellent academic credentials. He is that one deep thinker, pragmatist and ¿bon vivant¿ that all politicians and powerful figures need to bring them down to earth and keep them in tune with reality. When Jake is asked by a powerful media mogul to get close and report on the next ¿Black Leader¿ he is thrust into a journey that will lead him to find a destiny that will change him forever. Along the way the story will give us a peek into presidential politics and some of our countries most controversial foreign policies and liaisons, which are very much in the public conscience today. The reader is also introduced to the Creole culture of New Orleans. One cannot help but want to visit these colorful settings deliciously described with personal details by Dr. Denson. The reader has a feeling of what is to be the inevitable ending, but the events and plot have taken us so deep inside the characters that we are now hooked on every word to find that end that the writer has so cleverly crafted. An unexpected twist at the end lets us know that our effort was worth it. In the end we realize we have been wonderfully manipulated by man who knows his craft, knows words, and has a terrific grasp on our nation¿s socio/economic and political pulse.
