Are you tired of constantly giving while everyone around you is constantly taking?
You have been told all your life that you're supposed to be generous and that giving is better than receiving. You bought into that idea, so you're a giver. However, it doesn't make you feel any better... as a matter of fact, it makes you feel worse.
Why is that? It's because you have been going about it all wrong. You have been taught to give but not how to give.
In The Joy of Me, Dr. Shaelyn Pham sheds light on the false beliefs that lead to suffering within yourself, feelings of brokenness, and resentment in your relationships. Using psychology and spirituality, with insightful stories, this book will show you:
• How to let go of guilt and shame
• The expectations and obligations you have put on yourself
• The false identity you have taken on
• The true measure of your worth
• The unconditional love you can give and receive
• How to have a resentment-free life
This book will reveal how you can be happier with yourself and be more satisfied in your relationships. You can be more selfish and have people love you for it!

I'm not much of a reader but the title was intriguing so I picked it up. 5 hours later in a car coming back from San Francisco, I had read the whole thing. The book really is very insightful. I love when the author talks about the masks we put on. It really shed light on the anxiety I have experienced my whole life and that most of the things making me anxious revolved around pleasing others and how people perceived me. That chapter really resonated with me. Honestly, I never thought that putting me first in life could be a virtue. Since then I've read the book a few more times... slower to absorb all of the information packed inside. I'd highly recommend giving it a read.
Dr. Pham provides real-life examples and insight into the inner workings of how our self-esteem is created. She elegantly informs the reader of the importance of establishing boundaries and showing respect to ourselves through self-care and selfish acts. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist I found this book to be helpful as a resource with clients – it’s ease in reading is sure to resonate with a variety of individuals looking to improve themselves. The best feature of the book is sure to be the subtle yet thought-provoking assignments provided at the end of each chapter. I will definitely be recommending it to future clients.
This book is amazing and inspiring! I look at "Love of Self in an entirely different way". I specially liked the challenges given at the end of each chapter. I found this an easy way to reinforce changes I would like to put into use in my life. Unfortunately you cannot be happy all of the time and Dr. Shaelyn Pham shows ways to cope with whatever it is in your life that is causing the unhappiness. I work a lot and am on the computer all of the time, but when I picked up this book, I could not put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to feel better about themselves and put themselves in 1st place. I myself like hitting home runs in business and this book is definitely a home run.
