Overview

The Kingmaker

Ambition. Passion. Betrayal.

Rita Award-winning author Kennedy Ryan delivers the epic first installment of the All the King’s Men Duet.

Raised to rule, bred to lead and weaned on a diet of ruthless ambition.

In a world of haves and have nots, my family has it all, and I want nothing to do with it.

My path takes me far from home and paints me as the black sheep. At odds with my father, I’m determined to build my own empire. I have rules, but Lennix Hunter is the exception to every one of them. From the moment we meet, something sparks between us. But my family stole from hers and my father is the man she hates most. I lied to have her, and will do anything to keep her. Though she tries to hate me, too, the inexorable pull between us will not be denied.

And neither will I.

I love Kennedy Ryan's style of writing and when I saw she had a new duet in the works I couldn't wait to read and listen to it. I'll be honest initially I couldn't get into the story, but after the first couple of chapters, such was the power and strength of the writing I became completely and totally invested. This book is a departure in some ways from previous books I have read by Kennedy Ryan. This is a powerful book that will reel you in and keep you riveted from till the explosive cliff hanger end. I loved this book and cannot wait to read the next one and thankfully we do not have long to wait.

4.5 Stars!! Thought provoking, beautiful and interesting. This will be a jumble of thoughts and I am sorry because I am all over the place after reading this. I bow down to Kennedy Ryan right now for taking the risk she did with this book. As always with Kennedy Ryan's books, they leave me feeling like I am not doing enough in the world. She inspires me with her words to be a better person, to learn more about things that are going on in society that I may not be aware of, and to love everyone no matter what our differences are. She is a master when it comes to her characters and story lines. You love them, you hate them, you empathize with them and you understand their struggles. You become her characters. Her story lines are thought provoking, inspiring and truthful. She deals with real life issues. She doesn't sugar coat those issues, she throws them in your face and makes you see that life is hard. She shows us that no matter the race, age or class you are in, everyone experiences similar situations. Its brilliant and empowering! The Kingmaker is another one to add to the list of Inspiration. Its not like her other books, yet it is. I know that doesn't make sense, but its just something you have to figure out for yourself. The story line follows Lennix a Native American woman from an Apache tribe in Arizona. She’s the heroine. Maxim is a guy who is trying to find how to use other resources to sustain the world, than what his mogul oil tycoon father does. They way the meet is interesting and sets us up for how the story is going to go. Two people from different worlds, colliding and falling when they should be at odds based on their families. You have a beautiful heroine, a gorgeous hero, but lies and complex family issues are tearing them apart. Maxim is the guy that all us girls dream about. He uses his wealth for good. He is trying to make the world a better place and you can't fault a guy for doing all he can to save the planet. Yes, he's had many luxuries others haven't, but he has also worked hard for what he has achieved on his own. He is constantly at odds with his father and his conviction was inspiring. He stood up for what he felt was right. Lennix I loved this girl and her fight for her people. She was a true warrior. Lennix is very true to her culture and her traditions. It was amazing to just get a glimpse of them. I loved that Lennix didn't back down from what she felt and defended herself and her people. She went for everything and she should be proud of herself. As for him and Lennix. COMBUSTIBLE!! These two set the pages on fire. I found myself loving the build of them, the connection they were feeling felt real too me. Seriously, they couldn't get enough of one another, but then something gets in the way of what could be a beautiful life together. Lies. My only thing with Lennix and Maxim was the grudge that she holds for so long. I am not saying its not justified, but c'mon girl you know you love him. Maxim he should have pushed harder, but he's a guy. I loved how Kennedy brought the vision of the Native American people and their culture into this story. She wrote their truths, and the fights they have had to endure for hundreds of years. I can tell she researched thoroughly and it was felt as a reader. I loved how she brought the traditions of the Native Americans to the forefront. She showed respect to this culture and it was definitely appreciated. I can't possibly completely understand all. Read this!!

This magnificent story is one you need to read, Lennix and Maxim meet as teens, then they face each other again, 10 years have to pass for their story to really begin. This book will captivate you like no other, you will find characters like no other, they are both strong and determined. The story is compelling, you can't stop reading nor you'll want to. It's so well developed that you will feel every emotion. I just need to keep on reading the next one. This book is so good I am starting on the audiobook as soon as I can get it, because I just need to reread everything again, it's so good. A top read list for sure, it's one book that will change you in ways you never expected. A book story that will carry onto your everyday life, changing your perception of the world and the people you meet. A perfect masterpiece.
