The Last Fling is a split story of two middleaged men trying to live up to terms of a rather quirky will, and two oldtimers (their aunts) escaping their prescribed rocking chairs and embarking on what they see as their "last fling". It is a lighthearted comedy and a tale of touching friendships. The story begins with the two men getting a letter from a lawyer requesting them to come in to hear the reading of a will. They learn they are required to drive to Canada to a fishing lodge, spending a long weekend to do so. The sound of a trip of this sort is not a bad idea....... if they liked the other's company, but Kent cannot tolerate Freddie (his wife's cousin) and they tend to argue constantly. The will has some interesting stipulations that have to be met or the bequest will be forfeited. Once the men leave the lawyer's office, they stop at the nursing home in La Harpe, IL to visit their two aunts Martha and Cora (who just happen to be roommates). Freddie and Kent's news about the Canada trip gets them thinking. After they leave, Cora and Martha reminisce about trips they had taken many years before. One asks the other, "Wouldn't it be nice to take a 'one last fling' vacation before we die?" From that point on, they plot their escape from the nursing home. Once they decide to travel to Daytona Beach "where all the college kids go", their next challenge facing them is "How will we get there?" Money is their next problem. They decide to camp out on their way south in order to save money... The story line takes the reader to Canada with Kent and Freddie and his dog Slobbers and to Florida with the ladies. Each pair of travelers encounters many humorous experiences. This book will tickle your funny bone, yet it will also touch your heart.
