This is a New Adult Romance, intended for readers over 18. It contains scenes for mature readers.

Meghan Hawthorne is restless. The last year has been a roller coaster: her widowed mother just married a long-time family friend. Her younger brother unexpectedly became a father and a husband. Everyone's life is changing. . .except for hers. As she begins her final summer of college, Meghan's looking for excitement and maybe a little romance. Nothing serious; this girl just wants to have fun.

But the only man for Meghan turns out to be the last one she expects.

Sam Reynolds doesn't need excitement, and he doesn't want romance. Fun is out of the question. He's been the steady, responsible one since his parents were killed, and serious is his way of life.

When Sam rescues Meghan alongside a dark Georgia backroad, she falls hard for his deep brown eyes and slow drawl. But making him see her as more than just a party girl won't be easy. Sam's tempted by the fiery young artist, even as he realizes that giving into his feelings will mean radical change. . .maybe more than he can handle.

Nobody ever said love was simple.

Please allow me to give this novel more than five stars because it truly deserves more! The story is set in Savannah GA, one of my favorite USA towns and seems so real that I might run into Sam or Meghan on my next visit. The writer really brings the characters to life! This story develops strong characters and Meghan’s heart is captured by a slightly older “several generations” farmer. Sam has stepped up in the face of tragedy and taken on a large responsibility, he might have missed out on some of his youth. I was spellbound as I started this book! I could NOT put it down and read until 1:30 in the morning and got up with only three hours of sleep. I will re-read this story! I recommended the book to my young adult daughter…she loved it! She is on the look out to find a “Sam” of her own, she gives this book all-stars! It has all emotions and certainly some steam as Sam and Meghan heat up the pages! I’m excited to have conversations with my friends after they read it. I recommend this as book as one not to be missed this fall.

This is the first Tawdra Kandle book I have ever read and now I'm hooked!!! "As she begins her final summer of college, Meghan's looking for excitement and maybe a little romance. Nothing serious; this girl just wants to have fun. But the only man for Meghan turns out to be the last one she expects." This was Not what I expected at all, I read a lot of romance type books and this was far better!! I love the writing, I felt so connected to everyone, they became so real like I was right there with them!! I cannot wait for the books to follow!! A must read!!!

The Last One by Tawdra Kandle 5 stars! I couldn't put this down! Meghan's fiery temper and Sam's jaw clenching mask of self control make for a combustible story that is both sweet and smoking hot! I fell in love with all the characters easily, and enjoyed that this wasn't a simple love story where they meet, there is chemistry and they just go for it. Instead they struggled with their own inner dialogue and demons, and came out fighting anytime they couldn't trust their own instincts. I could easily re-read this story!

The Last One by Tawdra Kandle is a fantastic contemporary romance. Ms. Kandle has given us a well-written book and filled it with fun, lovable characters. Meghan is a college student that volunteers for a summer art program, teaching children that don't have the opportunity to learn about art in school. Sam is a farmer and has rescued Meghan and her friend when her car broke down. Meghan and Sam's story is loaded with drama, humor and sexy bits. The only thing I didn't care for in this story is it's written in the first person format. I think I'd have enjoyed it more in third person. But that's a personal preference. I did enjoy this story and look forward to reading more from Tawdra Kandle in the future. The Last One is book 1 of the Love In A Small Town Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A romance with both heart and humor. It took me a few chapters to warm up to both of the main characters in this book. The characters not the writing. The writing kept me reading. Great pace, and just enough tension to keep you turning the pages. No it was Sam. He was being a bit of a dweeb. Oh sure, he rescued the girls when they had car trouble, causing them to be stranded by the side of a country road, in an area they were unfamiliar. Meaghan being passed out only vaguely remembered that he was nice. But Sam was so nice the next time they met. She returned to town. This time completely sober, and aware, to pick up her car that had broken down. When she goes to thank him for his help, he rips into her for being irresponsible. Not that he should care, it’s not like they are going to meet again. Meaghan returns to school in Savannah hurt and pissed off. She’s not sure why she lets how he reacted bother her so much, it not like they are going to see each other again, Right? Wrong. Meaghan gets placed not only in Sam’s hometown as a Art teacher for the summer, but in his very house. Needless-to-say, sparks fly. They both fight their attraction for each other. Meaghan doesn’t do commitment, and Sam thinks he’s too old for her, plus he thinks she’s a city girl, and could never be happy out on a farm. Even a farm with no real farm animals. Apparently dogs and cats don’t count. Their journey is laughter, tears, ups and downs, and a bit of soul searching. Will they be able to overcome the obstacles in their way. And if so, how, when, and where? It’s not always the end point that matters but the journey along the way. In this journey, I came to understand both Sam and Meaghan more, and to fall for a few of the supporting characters as well. Don’t try to read this book without at least a couple of hankies at hand. But do read it. It’s worth the frustration at Sam and Meaghan’s behavior at the beginning. They are still young yet, and a worthwhile romance is rarely easy. All in all a very enjoyable read, that I can easily recommend to others.

I loved this book! The characters were amazing and i could feel their chemistry. Yes the intimate scenes were short and sweet, but thats okay because the story was so great. I just love everything about this book. It was over 200 pages so it is a real book, saying that because most books on here are only 40 pages long it seems. It was just a good countrylike romance. Must read especially for it being free!

I absolutely loved this book. The Last One was the story that I was missing. I loved the characters, how the story progressed, and everything else you can possibly love about a story. Tawdra Kandle did an amazing job writing this story. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. The plot was a little predictable, as with most romance books, but that was okay. I loved where the story took me. I was never bored with the story, it was a great read from start to finish. I went from hysterical laughing at some points and feeling sad for the characters, thankfully no crying, I don’t think my body could handle crying while sick. I have to admit though, when a speaker was called a ‘music blaster’ I busted out laughing. I have never heard a speaker called that and it was hilarious. I understood Meghan’s character a lot. For her, it seemed like everyone around her was moving on and falling in love and leaving her behind. Yet, she didn’t try and ruin her life by falling into drinking and drugs, she tries to find herself. She did that in the best way possible, even if she is a little hesitant about it at first. I loved watching her find herself. She doesn’t take anything sitting down. She fights for what she wants and is such a strong, caring character. I would love more stories with Meghan in them. It would be great. Sam… Oh Sam. I honestly want to meet this sexy farmer. He sounded so amazing. He was very dedicated to his sister and niece. Everything he did was for them to have a better life. He never gave up working for them, which must be exhausting. He is the kind of man any girl would be lucky to have. He is also a stubborn as hell man, which made me want to smack him half the time. I don’t do well with stubbornness unless it is my own. Sam Reynolds is one hell of a man, and I would love to know him more. The Last One is such a great read. I loved reading how the characters interacted with each other and meddled in each other’s lives. There never seemed to be a dull moment while reading. I will be picking up the rest of the series as soon as possible!

The Last One introduces The One Trilogy by Tawdra Kandle. It features Megan, an artist who is about to start her last year of college, who has joined the Art Corp and traveled to a small town in Georgia to teach children during the summer. She meets Sam when he rescues her and a friend from the side and the road. Megan doesn't remember much of the encounter, but in instantly intrigued when she picks up her car. Imagine both of their surprise when Sam's farm is where Meghan is staying this summer. The attraction is instant, and watching them circle each other as they figure out their relationship is a lot of fun. I have become a big fan of Tawdra Kandle because she writes realistic, interesting characters that are the right combination of heat and sweet. I loved Sam's relationship with his family and Meghan is a plucky heroine who matures into an adult with purpose in her life. This is a great story that is set in the South and I recommend it to fans of small town romance. I was given a free copy for an honest review.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions in this review are 100% my own. This book is written by one of my favorite authors. I love everything of hers I’ve read so far. This book is part of a trilogy but can be read as a stand alone. If you are a fan of Tawdra Kandle you’ll notice some other characters mentioned from The Cove series. Meghan is a character from that book series as well. Have you ever met someone that you just felt an emotional connection with from the moment your eyes laid on them? This is exactly what happened with Meghan and Sam. Of course they didn’t meet under the best circumstances. Sam comes off as very judgemental at first. Meghan comes across of as a player. When these two get together it’s like oil and water. Life is funny sometimes and these two end up around each other more than they wanted. Meghan takes a summer teaching job to teach art to children. She ends up being not only in the same town but the very same house as Sam. That is when their fireworks really start. Sometimes the heart knows what you want/need more than the mind. I loved how these two embraced their attraction and gave into the love they were trying to deny themselves. I would love to read more about Meghan and Sam. You can’t help but love them both.
