Overview

Because of immediate cancer, Livy Banks has six months to live. She holds an empty, yellow slip of notebook paper in one hand. The paper allows her to write a list of how her life will end... What would you write on the list? Whom would you visit? How would you learn to love those around you in such a short period of time? Where would you go from there? Livy travels to West End, a city along Lake Erie. She faces her mother for the very first time about failure and loss with their unshared relationship. As a mother and daughter bond unravels, Livy escapes to The Araby, a West End hotel, for repair. Once at The Araby, becoming sick, she is compelled to then complete relationships with three childhood friends: one who disregards her, a second who she befriends again, and a third she falls in love with. As Livy’s travels whisk her into a blizzard of emotions, her husband Cole Banks faces three realities of his own: the loss of his wife, the will to move on, and The Last Pile of Leaves that will never be raked again.

Great book! I walked through each moment as if I was Livy. I cried my heart out towards the end. I can't wait to read another book by Mr. Clinger. He has great feelings, sensitivity, understanding.....you name it. You must read this book.

I liked the way R. W. Clinger brought each character into the book. It held my interest and curiosity to find out what the five things were on Livy's list. Very well written book. Had a wonderful ending.

THE LAST PILE OF LEAVES ... is breathtaking! It is a walk in the autumn leaves that stirs up an endless lifetime of emotions. This novel is the epitome of literary brilliance. Not only do you become the characters of Livith Porter-Banks and Cole Banks as they face the most tragic episode of their lives, cancer and consequences, but you also learn to breathe and pause with them, suffer, and cry. THE LAST PILE OF LEAVES is charming and smart, a handful of tears and a pile of leaves you won't be able to leave go of. This is a book that will embrace your soul and cause you to wish that the novel will never end. I can't wait for R. W. Clinger's next novel!

This is an excellent story about Livy Porter-Banks, diagnosed with cancer and given seven months to live feels she has to tie up loose ends with her friends in family in West End, PA. a city on Lake Erie's shore. She leaves her loving, worried husband, Cole Banks, in Pittsburgh to tie up his loose ends and to deal with the nightmare of losing his wife to cancer.

Mr. Clinger's excellent narrative takes you inside the minds of both Livy and Cole, even Livy's cat, Dixie, to experience each emotion they are struggling with: Cole losing his wife, Livy losing her life, and Dixie losing her mistress Livy, the woman the cat adores. Mr. Clinger gently takes you back and forth from each character and how they are dealing with their lives, death and survival of the C-word.

Excellent story and highly recommended. His next book can't be published soon enough.

Excellent job, Rob!
