Overview

Never in a million years did Sage Garcia think she would be spending her three-day weekend at The Last Resort Motel with the man she swore off years ago. If she hadn't agreed to do a favor for her best friend Baxter, she would be enjoying her time off instead of being stuck up on a mountain with him.
After tricking Baxter into picking him up, Gabriel Ross is looking forward to a guys' weekend. Besides, he can use all the help he can get while he runs the motel restaurant for the weekend. When he opens the door and finds Sage on the other side, he's anything but disappointed. Too bad he can't say the same about her. Sage still holds a grudge from a hookup years ago, but Gabe isn't the boy he was back in the day and is looking forward to proving it to her.
With their chemistry burning hotter than ever, will Sage give in and let Gabe make amends? Or will she remain resentful while keeping her heart under lock and key?

If you liked The Evolution of Us - you'll love Room 13.
Please note - Room 13 is a novella and not a full length novel.

This novella was an Unexpected Fantastic Exciting look into Sage and Gabe’s last and it was so worth the wait !! The chemistry between these two characters was off the charts from the 1st eye look at each other !! It was Sexy Romantic and Heartfelt when two people realize that they needed to grow up first to realize what they have is real and long term instead of being crazy teenagers and do7 g things that would have made them NOT LAST !! Can’t wait for more from this group of friends !!

Even though The Last Resort Motel: Room Thirteen is a short novella and can be read as a standalone I recommend reading The Evolution of Us first as this is a wonderful complement/spinoff. D. Kelly has masterfully spun her words into the story of Sage, who we have seen in the previous stories. Kelly's way with words in this novella just shows what an amazing author she is. This story is not like the rest of D. Kelly's books, this simple story is perfect for this couple. Now we get to see the mysterious man who broke Sage's teenage heart. Helping out her friend, Baxter, she agrees to drive to the Last Resort to pick up his friend on her three day vacation. Only to come face to face with the one man she swore off years ago. Gabriel tricks Baxter into picking him up at the hotel and having a guy's weekend only to open the door to non other Sage. Once the shock wears off Gabriel is on his A-game to make amends because Sage is still holding a grudge. Once that door opens and Sage and Gabriel are face to face the instant sparks fly, chemistry jumps right off the page at you. The push and pull, I love you--I hate you tug-o-war game is played out until the very end. 4 Stars **Review by Lisa, Late Night Reviewer for Up All Night w/ Books**

~4.5 STARS~ Sage Garcia is a successful lawyer and has a great group of friends, but no one special to share it with. She keeps her feelings to herself because she had her heart broken years ago, and she has never gotten over it. Gabriel Ross is looking forward to returning home and repairing his relationship with his cousin, Baxter. He is waiting for Baxter to come out and help him and his friends run a motel restaurant, and then they will head out to return home. Imagine his surprise when Sage shows up at his door instead of Baxter….she is the girl he left behind and now she is all woman and she is NOT at all HAPPY when she sees him again. Talk about amazing chemistry, Gabe and Sage still have it after all these years. Gabe is actually very happy to see Sage. He never forgot her, and he wants to make amends and explain exactly why he left her heartbroken. Sage has mixed feelings. One minute she wants to beat the crap out of him, and in the next breath, she wants to kiss him and do other things to him. It was very entertaining watching her to see what she was going to do. This is a shorter story, but Kelly left nothing out. It was a sizzling romance yet there was a sweetness there as well. I love second chance romances, but what I liked about this one was the difference in their feelings. Gabe and Sage were high school sweethearts, but now they are adults. They aren’t exactly the same people they were. They have grown into adults, and I liked that Kelly addressed how their feelings towards each other were somewhat different than they were when they were teenagers. I have to give a shout out to Agnes, one of the regular customers in the restaurant. This woman is HYSTERICAL. She should get her own book!!!! If you are looking for a quick read with all the emotions of a full-length novel, this book is the perfect choice!!!! ***READ AND REVIEWED FOR DEVILISHLY DELICIOUS BOOK REVIEWS***

3.5 STARS!! This was a great second chance at love romance novella that tells us what happened between Sage and Gabriel (Gabe). There was definitely chemistry between the two and I liked their characters. There were times I wanted to grab Sage and shake the hell out of her because of her actions and behavior. I absolutely loved Agnes, she had me smiling and laughing more than a few times. She was a trip and definitely a fun loving character. I also enjoyed Max, Aurora and Bax. This short story had a bit of suspense, drama, laughs, sexiness, steam and a sweet ending that readers will enjoy.

In this short story we meet the guy that Sage (a secondary character from The Evolution of Us) was hurt by when they were teenagers ... Gabe! When Sage does her best friend Baxter (Gabe's cousin) a favor ... the last thing she thinks is that she will be picking up Gabe at the Last Resort Motel and giving him a ride back home. Sage is such a spitfire, she doesn't take crap from anyone ... even Gabe, but she has a hard time resisting him. And Gabe ... your manly man, who just wants a second chance with the love of his life. Sage and Gabe make you believe that maybe second chances can have a happily-ever-after. I graciously received an ARC courtesy of Foreward PR & Marketing in exchange for a honest review.

We met Sage in The Evolution of Us. I hope we get Baxter's story, too, who was the other friend from that story! Sage and Gabe get a second chance to get it right in this story. Gabe is Baxter's cousin who broke Sage's heart years ago. When Gabe calls Baxter for help and find Sage at his door instead, he knows this is his chance to make things right with her. Sage is feisty and won't easily give into her feelings for Gabe. I liked that she made him work a little for that second chance. This is a novella and a short story, so it was well told in a short amount of time. I would have loved more time with this two, but it was a good, quick read.

What a wonderful series the Last Resort Motel is. For those just reading about this project, it’s a series of novellas that are releasing each month of the year and each of the 12 novellas is by a different author. I have found some amazing author that I knew nothing about that have great writing styles. This book is no acception. Room 13 by D. Kelly is wonderfully written and with new characters you can’t help but relate to and enjoy. Plus her take on the motel’s staff which we have come to love was extremely entertaining. Room 13 in a sense is a 2nd chance story. A 2nd chance to make amends, renew old friendships and possibly rekindle a relationship gone bad. The storyline is funny, sexy and has a bit of aghast thrown in. I highly recommend all the Last Resort Motel’s novellas to date including Room 13. While you don’t have to read them all to enjoy them, I would recommend it. 2 Thumbs Up for a great addition to the series.

If you read The Evolution of Us then you met Sage and Baxter already, if not prepare for one fun read with sass and laughs. This was a quick easy read about a second chance romance between Sage and Gabe, Baxter's cousin. This read was filled with a little drama, lots of laughs and definite chemistry. As always D. Kelly delivers with another amazing must read!
