Individuals can take a broad range of actions to leave behind legacies, but too many believe "traditional" estate plans are the only option. Author Mark Weber argues, from long experience working with wealthy families, that there is a spectrum of actions, and legacies involve more than financial assets.
In The Legacy Spectrum, Weber describes a process that begins with attaining and maintaining confidence in having "enough" for one's own financial security before determining how much is enough, but not too much, for children.
The process he has created can involve incorporating philanthropy in one's legacy and using charitable giving to pass values to children. As a practical matter, Weber shows readers how to use family meetings to provide a financial education for children, strengthen family ties and prepare children to receive an inheritance.
The Legacy Spectrum includes case studies from Weber's years of experience working with wealthy families to create legacies that pass assets as well as values and bring families closer together. It includes sample worksheets and forms to help readers pass their wealth with thought and meaning.

About the Author

Mark Weber leads the Wealth Transfer department of SilverStone Group, a full-service resource management firm that provides employee benefit, actuarial and human resource consulting as well as insurance brokerage services. For nearly 30 years he has advised some of the wealthiest families in America in both personal financial and estate planning.

Weber also leads the Charitable Advisor In Philanthropy Study Group—a group he founded in 2012 with the support of the Omaha Community Foundation. In just five years, Mark has guided nearly 70 professionals in the Omaha area (attorneys, accountants, financial planners, wealth managers and planned giving officers) through the graduate level course work necessary to attain the CAP designation.

In 2017, these advisors reported that, since completing the CAP program, they have worked with their clients to commit a staggering $1.4 billion to charitable causes. With Mark’s leadership, the graduates of the Omaha CAP Study Group Program are helping their clients leave legacies that will impact their communities for years to come.

Mark holds bachelor and law degrees from Creighton University and a master’s of science in financial services degree from The American College of Financial Services.

Mark and his wife, Tricia, have implemented all of the strategies recommended in The Legacy Spectrum. They are constantly tweaking, tinkering and testing to find the ones that work best for their growing family.
