I have read several books on the history of WW II and this trilogy is clearly the best. Very well written, incredibly well documented and thorough. Atkinson uses letters, military reports, and many other documents to tell this story. It reads like a novel, a real page turner. Each volume grabs you and it is very hard to put it down. Well worth reading.

I have all three books in this trilogy set.   I have read a LOT of WWI and WWII history books,  This is by far the best written, researched and entertaining book on the subject  of war.  I will definitely re-read  at some point.  Just pure enjoyment to read.

I volunteer with a Honor Flight hub in middle America. In Guns at Last Light are many of the experiences of the men and women whose comrades in arms we are privileged to transport to Washington DC to see the World War II memorial. I am humbled to be in their presence and through Rick's words, understand the pain and anguish they have largely kept to themselves for decades. The true heroes don't count their medals in public. It's a masterful work.
