The Life of Col. James Fisk, Jr. (Classic Reprint)
Excerpt from The Life of Col. James Fisk, Jr.

Ing desolation in its track which years can scarce erase. It is to this class that the man who is the subject of the world's short lived won der belongs, and we are grieved that the truthful historian can find so little of good in a life that might have been so grand a thing, with which to offset its many errors. More than thirty-seven years ago, in a quiet town that nestles amongst the green mountains whose verdant crown had given to the state the name it bears, it was said to the Father of the future Prince of Erie, to you a Son is born, and we will suppose that the mother in the fullness of her wifely joy and love, looked at her first born in his spotless innocence and said, he shall be called fames. Through the host of ills that baby flesh is heir to, no doubt he passed safely, and of hair breadth 'scapes.
