My wife and I have spent lots of time in Florence and believe the art is beyond comparison. This book is very well written and takes us back to many marvelous hours spent looking. The more time you have spent in Florence, the more you will appreciate this book. Not light reading, but rather a thorough study.

I was sobbing hard. Once again, my dad was beating me with a belt. The blood oozed from the cuts on my bare back. "YOU WILL NOT DISOBEY ME!!!", dad yelled. "YOU WILL NOT LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT PERMISSION!!!" I begged and begged for him to stop. Finally, he did. I sank to the floor, crying. Blood was smeared on my back, in my long hair, and on the floor. I ran up to my room, stifling sobs, while hurriedly zipping up my dress to hide the bleeding welts. "If only Mom wasnt dead!", i yelled in my head. I sank onto my bed, crying and wishing that it would all end. That i would just die. Then, i had an idea. "Im running away.", i thought. I got up, careful not to aggravate the pain. As i cleaned the blood with wipes, i thought of what to pack. Then, as quietly as i could, I put on a tshirt and faded blue jeans, then packed an extra two shirts, two pairs of jeans, and one pair of shorts. Then i threw in a blanket, some money, a flashlight, and a toothbrush. I also put in my diary anda pen. Putting the backpack on my shoulders, i put one foot out the window, then the other. I quietly landed on the ground. I ran towards the street, hearing my dad's angry yell far behind.
