About the Author

J G Sauls is a native of North Carolina, and has lived there except when the FBI stubbornly required him to be elsewhere. A lawyer by training, he left the District Attorney's Office in Raleigh, North Carolina to join the FBI in 1982. Thereafter he served in Charlotte, North Carolina; New York City; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Washington, DC; the FBI Academy at Quantico, Virginia; Elizabethtown, Kentucky; and Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He retired from the FBI at the end of 2003, and is now in private practice.
Married, with three sons and a daughter, he is the author of the novels The Magician's Secrets, Devil's Oath and Double-Feature Boy, and the memoir Mountain Dew Confidential. He is currently at work on Devil's Conquest, which concludes the trilogy consisting of it, The Magician's Secrets, and Devil's Oath.

The story draws you in right from the start. Interesting characters in exciting situations keep things moving from North Carolina to California. Can't wait to see what situations Rob gets into in the next books of trilogy.

Anyone who reads this wonderful book is going to get hooked, too. The characters stay with you long after the last page, and - in Sauls' skilled hands - the possibilities are endless for equally fascinating and entertaining sequels. There are so many things to like here. One of my favorite discoveries is that anger and outright rage CAN actually be conveyed convincingly in the written word. I think love is easy, since the typical reader is more than happy to help the author along. Anger and rage are tougher, however, when the storyteller is pretty much on his own. Sauls is one of the select few who do anger and rage well. The Magician's Secrets seems to prove that he does it ALL well. Can't wait for more!

Few books are able to capture so much imagery and emotion while providing such an exciting story. Getting to know the characters and experience their travels and events has hooked me. Can't wait to find out more about Rob, Gino, Toby and Shannon!
