About the Author

Newton Booth Tarkington (1869-1946) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American novelist. He is one of only three novelists (with William Faulkner and John Updike) to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction more than once. A native Indianan, most of Tarkington's works focused on the trials and tribulations of the American upper-middle classes (especially of the Midwest) of the first decades of the Twentieth Century.
