The Man In Black by Mark Bradford

A mysterious figure, always dressed in black...

I had long had the concept of The Man In Black in my head. He was someone that I held in high regard, someone who had lived a very long time, had gone through intense times and no matter what happened to him, always did the right thing. He had awe inspiring powers, past the point of being impressive; they were so far reaching that he just WAS, like a force of nature. Regardless of this power, he always worked within the system, always obeying the rules, and not upsetting the natural flow of things. He took great care in respecting those around him, regardless of their intentions. He always saw the true self in others. His origin was a mystery.

The Man In Black, me thinks, is a manifestation of my desire to fix and care for the universe. My desire to make everything better, to care for the hurts and ailments of everything an everyone became TMIB.

The recent experiences in my life have caused me to think about him all the more.

I hope you enjoy him as much as I do. He won't let you down.

About the Author

Mark Bradford is a Technology Consultant, whatever that is. For the last 10 years he has successfully run a small consulting business, or perhaps not run it unsuccessfully enough to run it out of business. He has a small collection of clients who have been with him since its inception. As their Technology Consultant, he makes visits to their business to solve problems, maintain their networks, and develop web sites and web-enabled solutions to their business challenges.

When no one is looking he writes - fiction. Because it would have been too easy to just write in Word, or in a notebook, he built an entire writing site from scratch. Its sort of like cutting down a bunch of trees, inventing the paper mill, and then manufacturing a special pad of paper, instead of just going to Walmart and buying one.

All of his stories are written there, as far as you know.

He lives with his two children, Penelope and Walter (not their real names). He's a full time, single dad and will never be as good of a mom as a mom would be, but he's trying his best. He enjoys cooking and exploring new tastes. Both children, Francine and Albert (not their real names) really enjoy his food. They don't really have a choice, so this feedback may be unreliable.

He has one cat, which he taught how to fetch.

He regrets having taught the cat how to fetch.
