Karen Rose Smith is a favorite author of mine. Ironically enough I started reading her cozy mysteries before I ever realized she also wrote romance. I learned so much about Karen by following her on Facebook and the more I learned the more I liked her not only as an author, but also as a person. This story is set in Rust Creek Falls, Montana and centers around bachelor Hudson Jones who has arrived in town to help his brother, Walker, out. Bella Stockton is a beautiful, young woman who has not had what any would say is an easy life considering her parents were killed when she was young. She went through her period of rebellion, but after getting her life back on track she headed off to college only quit and return to help her brother with his triplets when his wife died. She is the director at Just Us Kids Day Care Center and resents Hudson and what she sees as his interference in her job. Hudson is a trust fund cowboy and loves to travel. He's not been very close with his family, but would like to change that. When he meets Bella there's an instant attraction, but she shoots him down readily so he has to figure out a way to get her to trust him. I really enjoyed this story. I fell in love with the small town immediately The plot is sweet and interlaced with a lot of romantic tension. It flows effortlessly and pulled me in immediately. This is an endearing story of trust, faith, forgiveness and romance. This entertaining story is one I would recommend to anyone who loves romance.

Bella Stockton left college to help her widowed brother with his triplets. She doesn't have happy memories of Rust Creek. The death of her parents and the separation from her siblings was traumatic. Now she's back and managing a day care. When Hudson Jones comes to help with a problem, he finds himself drawn to Bella and wants to spend time with her, but she's wary of his attentions. She doesn't want to risk rejection. Will she let her guard down and take a chance on love? Bella is a gentle, compassionate woman. She has struggled in the past with betrayal and loss. I wish she wouldn't let her pain control her chance of future happiness. Hudson is a charmer. He enjoys his travels and has no desire to stay in one place. That changes when he gets to know Bella. Their attraction is powerful. I was pulled into the their romance from the first page. I could tell that they belonged together. As I read The Maverick's Holiday Surprise I enjoyed seeing Bella and Hudson's love grow and deepen. Their tenderness and caring was apparent. It was heartwarming to see how the baby chain helped Jamie with his little ones. Karen Rose Smith wrote a feel good holiday story that left me smiling. She did a wonderful job. The characters were likeable and the setting made me wish I was there at Short Hills Ranch surrounded by loving people.

Bella Stockton was the manager of a day care center, and Hudson Jones owned the property while his brother owned the center. Hudson was helping his brother oversee the day to day operations when he met Bella. Bella has been through some things in her past that she kept to herself, and Hudson wanted to get to know her better, wishing she would open up to him. This is a heartwarming story that makes you feel good. Karen Rose Smith is a fantastic author and I highly recommend this book.

‘The Maverick’s Holiday Surprise’ is an appealing, very well-written romance. The author captivates the reader with delightful characters. Dialog is true to life, and the descriptions of Montana in the early winter make me want to head north from the desert. The romance is sweetly tender with a bit of spice, and the plot is interesting, keeping one’s attention from the beginning through to the last page. Bella left her college classes behind to help her brother Jamie with infant triplets after the sudden death of his wife. They lived on his ranch; Bella manages ‘Just Us Kids’ day care, then went home to help with dinner, cleanup, and getting the tiny boys and girl off to bed. Life in Rust Creek Falls was busy, but Bella wouldn’t have it any other way when her brother needed her. The local women had put together a baby chain that helped out with meals, cleaning, and caring for the adorable little threesome so Jamie could work the ranch and Bella could manage ‘Just Us Kids’. Hudson Jones, wealthy brother to the franchise owner Walker, was overseeing daily operations and working to improve the PR after an outbreak of RSV and a parent’s subsequent lawsuit had reduced the number of children cared for. He watched Bella during his stay and was curious about her, but she had no illusions, having already been warned that he was a love-‘em-and-leave-‘em guy. Her family and saving to return to college were her priorities, not a fling with her boss, no matter how good-looking and personable he was. Just what exactly was she supposed to do with his attention and concern, though, when his boundaries began to encroach into her life? Bella and Hudson are very well characterized. We learn the most about Bella, yet we do get to know some of Hudson’s heart changes and concerns. I like Bella very well; she has secrets that she is afraid to share with Hudson and heartaches of the past that may affect her future. She is the kind of heroine who pulls at one’s heartstrings and definitely had me rooting for her, hoping that something better will happen – and soon! Using Bella’s photography skills to benefit the day care is a wise move on Hudson’s part, and an interesting plus to the story – I wish I could accomplish all this young woman does in a day! One can tell that the author cares about her characters and plots; that is a sign of a talented author when as a reader I am invested in the characters, as well. Bella and children simply seem to go hand-in-hand, and I couldn’t imagine her doing anything else but managing the daycare and caring for her niece and nephews – other than having her own children and taking many, many photos of them. The novel, including the ending, is satisfying. I highly recommend ‘The Maverick’s Holiday Surprise’ to romance lovers and those who are fans of this author. With this delightful guy and gal and the magical setting of Christmas snow falling in Montana, this novel exemplifies why we enjoy reading romances so much. With a grateful heart, I received a complimentary copy of this book; as a courtesy, I am posting my honest review for which no compensation was received.
