The Memory Watcher by Minka Kent

Haunted by memories of the daughter she gave up at fifteen, Autumn Carpenter never fully moved on.

She doesn't have to.

Instead, she lives a life of relative seclusion, content to watch from a distance as the picture-perfect McMullen family raises her daughter as their own. Every birthday, every milestone, every memory, Autumn is watching.

Only no one knows.

But when the opportunity presents itself, Autumn allows herself to become intertwined in the lavish life of the picturesque McMullens. And only then does she realize that pictures . . . they lie. The perfect family . . . it doesn't exist. And beautiful people . . . they keep the ugliest secrets.

Alittle disappointed in the ending, but still worth your time. I read the entire book in one day. I couldn't put it down!,

All I am going to say is that I highly reccommend this book. It kept my interest from start to finish and that surprise plot twist at the end...did not see that one coming.

This kept me reading late into the night. I wasn’t ready for the ending though. I bet there’s a sequel coming.

Fast paced, interesting plot, good writing style. I'd have given 4 stars, but the ending felt like it was thrown together.

This is a debut novel by Minka Kent ... and it's a doozy! This is one of the best psychological thrillers I've read in a long time. Autumn Carpenter gave up her baby for adoption when she was 15 years old. She's spent a lot of time looking for her daughter ... and she's found her. She follows the adoptive mom on social media ... she met and man and moved in with him only because he lives a block away from the McMullen family. She is like a chameleon, becoming whatever she wants people to see. The McMullens are well-to-do. Daphne, married to Graham, posts her family pictures on social media. From all accounts, this is a perfect marriage. And Autumn is so happy knowing that Grace, her daughter, was adopted by them. To get even closer to her daughter, she takes a temporary job with them as a nanny. And that's where she learns that not everything is what she thinks it is. The book is told in alternating chapters by both Autumn and Daphne. Can you believe either of them? Extremely well written, the characters are finely detailed which leads to a very realistic story. There are a couple of huge twists ... twists I never saw coming. The ending is perfection. I highly recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a good psychological thriller. I stumbled across this author in Facebook ... and I'm looking forward to reading her next book ... THE THINNEST AIR.
