The Merger by Bernadette Marie

Business minded Spencer Benson only sees the bottom line getting bigger when he begins merger talks with another family owned company. However, headstrong lawyer, Julie Jacobson, is determined to be very thorough with the merger, which throws Spencer off his game.

Spencer makes no qualms of his dislike for Julie, but when she comes to him for help he finds perhaps she's not quite the menace he thought she was. In fact, his feelings for her change completely. But when he finds that someone has used the merger to stab him in the back whom can he turn to when Julie's name is associated with the deceit?

A chronic entrepreneur, Bernadette Marie opened her own publishing house in 2011, 5 Prince Publishing, so that she could publish the books she liked to write and help make the dreams of other aspiring authors come true too.

The Merger by: Bernadette Marie Was pleasantly surprised. I have read books by this author in the past, even some from this series and have not been impressed. Manages to finish this book rather quickly. The story was not too long or drawn out like some of her other books.

In 1604, Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote, wrote “Love and war are all one…” Well, that seems to fit the beginning of The Merger by Bernadette Marie. Spencer Benson finds himself in a mind-numbing, brutal war of business merger contract negotiations with only one person standing in his way, Julie Jacobson. She is the attorney representing the company he needs to achieve a major corporate and highly personal goal. His frustrations towards Julie reach its peak the day before papers are finally signed to seal the deal. She then does something so unexpected that it leaves his head and heart spinning. After months of hostility, working side by side, she is simply gone. All Spencer can think of is good riddance. But then again the man does seem to protest way too much. She may be gone but certainly not forgotten. For Julie, who is now homeless and jobless, thanks to her cheating ex-husband, life and love has been anything but fair. She is ready to move on and start over. To her surprise, she may end up finding true happiness in the unlikeliest of places. My only grievance with the story is Spencer’s casual physical relationship with his best friend, Tiffany, who I did not particularly like. Though it ended with Julie’s arrival to Nashville, his integrity and overall likeability definitely took a hit with me over it. This enjoyable, angst-filled romance is book #9 of The Keller Family series by Bernadette Marie. Hats off to Ms. Marie for once again delivering an entertaining romantic tale with twists and turns yet staying focused on the plot. Her cast of Benson family secondary characters lend the story credibility, as well as likeability. Having loved book #1, The Executive’s Decision, this is only my second book in the series. I hope to have the opportunity to read each and every one! Thank you NetGalley for providing me an ARC e-book in exchange for an unbiased, honest opinion.
