The Microbiome Diet is one of the best book written on weight loss, after The Hungry Chick Dieting Solution but also one of the most important books on general health as well.This book represents a new era in the treatment of obesity and helps provides the answer why so many people just can't lose weight. Anyone who wants to get to the root cause of their health problem must read Dr. Kellman's book.
Hidden in Chapter 11 is this little nugget. "There are several vegetarian dishes on the Microbiome Diet but probably not enough to sustain a seven-week diet. It can be very difficult to lose weight as a vegetarian or vegan, especially when you are trying to avoid gluten, dairy, soy, and eggs in support of digestive health. If you are committed to eating as a vegetarian or vegan, I suggest you focus on adding the Microbiome Superfoods, Superspices, and Supersupplements to your diet and work with a nutritionist to make sure you are getting enough protein and other nutrients.” Very disappointing. The general information is good, but I thought¿ I was getting a plan I could follow. I'd like my money back, but I won't hold my breath.
This book is a fascinating read! I am a health care professional and have read much on health and nutrition as well as disease prevention and causes. I learn new information on all of these topics simply by going to work. I have never been this fascinated by a health/nutrition book before! I love the science behind the The Microbiome Diet. It makes complete sense and caused a major "aha" moment for me. I am excited to embark on this new journey of restructuring my gut and hopefully lessening my chronic back pain. My husband and I have been on the diet for three days only. I have lost 2 lbs and he has lost 4. I am excited to see how I will feel as I progress. There is a very large cost up front as well as a lot of time spent at the grocery store searching for unfamiliar food items. There is more cooking than I'm used to, but I think it is definitely worth it! I am hopeful for all those who are struggling with their health that they may find a solution through their gut. i
