The title seems to say it all. The middle of the bridge makes you think of someone who is stuck and unable to go forward or back. That is the case with Grace. She is stuck between her past and her future and instead just drifts around in the "now". She grew up being judged because of her mother and because of what her prom date did she always does one night stands. She doesn't want a relationship. Her past and what she has gone through is what caused her to make this decision. Grace is a romance author who likes to immerse herself in the people and the area she is writing about and it makes her books so much better because of it. She decides to go to Connecticut and meets the great grandson of General Rochambeau, his name is Etienne. When Grace and Etienne start having feelings for each other all she wants is a one night stand while he is confused and wants more. He starts to crack Grace's perceptions on love and relationships but he will never be able to break through until she confronts her past and sees how it affects her future. The author does an amazing job of making the characters seem real, they almost jump off the page. You can feel the emotions they are feeling: fear, sadness, confusion, hate, etc. I love how Etienne is so sure of what he wants and does little things to win her over piece by piece. Will he be the one who can help her confront her past and cross the bridge to the future that she can have? Or will her insecurities and her past ruin any chance she ever has at a future? I highly suggest that you read it and find out because I am not going to tell you :)
