I absolutely loved this book. A must for anyone with a reactive dog. As a one time owner of a reactive dog and a dog trainer I felt every word of this book. The style of the book was engaging, the empathy is real and the advice down to earth and understandable. Annie Phenix is a wonderful writer and dog trainer. She was not afraid to tell us about her mistakes. I cried for her losses and cheered for her successes. This is a great book for anyone who loves dogs. Even those of us lucky enough to have great happy go lucky pets with no issues. All dog owners will benefit from using the dog friendly training techniques in this book.
Several years ago, my reactive border terrier and I had the good fortune of learning from Annie Phenix, author of The Midnight Dog Walkers: Positive Training . . . . Annie's heart and soul and expertise - along with her gift for teaching - gave us what we needed to leave The Midnight Dog Walkers' Club. Gracie and I are now enjoying agility, rally, walks with other dogs, and leisurely meals on restaurant patios. Imagine! And now, readers everywhere can learn from Annie who has made such a tremendous difference in my life, my dog's life, and hundreds of others'. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book: a great read and a great resource for positively affecting the lives of all dogs.
Wow! Just Wow! This book is about changing the mentality that people have about needing to cause pain in order to learn. This book is about building a positive and happy relationship and creating a partnership between dog and human. This book is about changing old negative behaviors into wanted and positive behaviors without using the old method of force, yank and pain. Ms. Phenix will change the way people have been brought up and trained to believe that the only way to get a well trained responsive dog is to hurt or force them into good behavior. If you love your dog and feel there must be a different way to train than just bullying and shocking your best friend into good behavior, this is a must read.
