What I love about Christi Caldwell’s books, obviously because they are great, she manages to bring back characters from previous books for her fans but this in no way makes it difficult for a first time reader to pick up a book & enjoy it. Her characters are flawed, real & lovable which all make Christi the fantastic writer she is. This book brings together Josephine & Duncan both hurt by love & protective of their hearts. Josephine is determined to show that women have brains & not just attend balls or soirées. Duncan after being cleared of murder now champions those whose case seems impossible. Brought together by a lost child, they both end up working together before life separates them. Though in true Christi fashion love always finds a way. This is another fantastic read, I love reading about characters with depth and history to them, it gives the reader a reason to root for them. Cannot recommend this book enough, Christi’s writing goes from strength to strength.
“I’m a girl, Papa. All women know about love.” The Minx Who Met Her Match is book four in The Brethren series by Christi Caldwell. I smiled my way through this book. Josephine Pratt and Duncan Everleigh have an immediate rapport that allows themselves to debate each other in a fun, amusing way for the reader. You can see how their relationship makes them better people. The beginning of this book sees Josephine a little lost, with a passion for law, in a society that doesn’t value a woman’s mind or ambition outside of family life. Duncan is a man who has seen and felt the worst of society and just wants to provide for his daughter as a barrister. I like how Duncan challenges Josephine’s view of the world and shows her that the law is not black and white. In turn, I like how Josephine helps Duncan understand how his workaholic tendencies are affecting his daughter and reminds him of the person he used to be before his wife. The real standout in this book is Charlie, Duncan’s daughter. She’s so matter of fact about everything. Her scenes are some of the best. All in all, this was a fun, interesting read and we got glimpses of previous beloved characters, which I love. Bookstagram: @hopeless.book.romantic
