Full of fantastical worlds, animals, and entities, The Moon Coin takes readers on a magical adventure they won’t soon forget. With beautiful illustrations and a plot that definitely keeps the reader engaged, this is a story that I highly suggest all lovers of fantasy pick up, regardless of age. It reminds me, in a way, of The Chronicles of Narnia series—jumping between realms with vivid characters, non-stop action, and an easy to follow, yet mesmerizing, plot. Though I personally have found that my tastes are moving away from that of fantasy, I still really enjoyed this novel; it’s characterization was great, and the story itself was extremely intriguing. Though Lily is just 13 years old, she is wise beyond her years, and she comes across as a very mature protagonist as the story evolves. I really enjoyed getting to know her, and her caring and laid back attitude made me connect with her almost immediately. Though she’s lost in a world that is not her own, and there are those out to destroy her, she keeps a level head, and with the help of her friends and the creatures inhabiting the moon realm, she learns many things about herself and others, adding to the abounding themes within the novel. This is a great read, definitely a novel for MG and lower YA readers who love fantasy, though I highly suggest it for the older crowd as well.

The story is full of wonderful characters that are beautifully described, its full of excitement. Richard due has a wonderfully clever imagination. This book is one of the best i have read, i found myself re reading it with my children who were all full of wows and oohs, they loved it as much as me. i would recommend this to everyone because its such a wonderful story and i look forward to reading the rest.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. This was a very well written YA fantasy. The storyline was well developed and scenes were described so well you felt you were there instead of reading of the place. The characters were relatable and you are endeared to them from the beginning. I will be recommending this to my children and to others. Just have to warn them to clear the day because they won't want to put it down. Can't wait to read more from this author.

Have just begun to read this & have immediately been drawn into the story, the characters, the setting. Thrilled to find an author who doesn't write down to a youthful readership but who writes using the correct words and learning can occur, as it should, naturally. The illustrations at the chapter starts are lush and have a lasting impact for as you read the clean, plain, black text you see the most amazing, colourful settings. Less than a quarter of the way through this & I'm already a bit worried that the end is too near. This is a reading experience to savour & I miss having young ones in the house so we could snuggle in & read it aloud together. (Mind you should have the 20s & 30 year olds home for Xmas - perhaps we'll start a new tradition!) Here's where I make confession - I ignored everything around me & read. That's how compelling The Moon Coin tale & writing was for me. At the half way mark I was slowing down only because I didn't want it to end. The characters, from all the realms visited, were skillfully and thoroughly portrayed. A lovely blend of realism and fantasy interwoven in their actions. Sufficient description of each realm provided to aid visualization but not lead readers too far astray from the main tale. As midnight neared I finished on a sigh for the end of the pure enjoyment experienced and a smile for the enjoyment to come for I'm definitely looking to read the rest of the series. By the way I'd rate this 6/5.
