This is a great story of an American soldier who did not fit the mold of the typical soldier—he improved the mold. The boy who dreamed of being a frogman not only achieved his dream, he served his country with distinction. Tom Davis provides insights to the inner machinations of the military in the context of both individual and unit impacts. It is not the story of one who deftly colored within the lines of political correctness. From reluctant warrior to seasoned professional—it is a story of an American soldier who made a difference, day by day, year after year. A must read.

This is a fun book to read.  It brought back memories of my past, and made me laugh. Everyone will enjoy it, but especially vets. I sure learned a lot about Tom!!

I'm not a military person and thought I'd just see how a boy went from the bottom to the top line in the army, not expecting to enjoy the "moving on up" so much. The writing is entirely authentic: funny, brazen, poignant, by turns. There are a lot of acronyms (and a listing in the back to help) but they didn't  bother me after a bit. I now have a much better idea of a military man's (and wife's) ups and downs through some 30 years...and I confess to a much greater regard for the men who serve. This books did that for me.

A really well written tale of Colonel Tom Davis 30+ years in the Army. He achieved just about every qualification awarded to Special Forces and served all over the world. Colonel Davis recounts his life during these 30 years as though he was having a conversation with the reader. This book will keep you wanting to know what is coming next from start to finish. It is suitable for readers of all ages and backgrounds and a must for Special Forces people active and retired.

I read through Tom's story with great interest and marveled at all the things he experienced as he made his way up the ladder. It is a great story and a fascinating read. I would recommend it to all whether you have a military background or not.
