Overview

It has an ocean-front view, a private beach--and a deadly secret that won't stay buried.

No. 7 Ocean Drive is a gorgeous, multi-million-dollar beachfront estate in the Hamptons, where money and privilege know no bounds. But its beautiful gothic exterior hides a horrific past: it was the scene of a series of depraved killings that have never been solved. Neglected, empty, and rumored to be cursed, it's known as the Murder House, and locals keep their distance.

Detective Jenna Murphy used to consider herself a local, but she hasn't been back since she was a girl. Trying to escape her troubled past and rehabilitate a career on the rocks, the former New York City cop hardly expects her lush and wealthy surroundings to be a hotbed of grisly depravity. But when a Hollywood power broker and his mistress are found dead in the abandoned Murder House, the gruesome crime scene rivals anything Jenna experienced in Manhattan. And what at first seems like an open and shut case turns out to have as many shocking secrets as the Murder House itself, as Jenna quickly realizes that the mansion's history is much darker than even the town's most salacious gossips could have imagined. As more bodies surface, and the secret that Jenna has tried desperately to escape closes in on her, she must risk her own life to expose the truth--before the Murder House claims another victim.

Full of the twists and turns that have made James Patterson the world's #1 bestselling writer, THE MURDER HOUSE is a chilling story of murder, money, and revenge.

I just received this book yesterday and just as most of his previous novels it is absolutely awesome. I have read almost 70 pages by now. I have read most of his other adult books so far and I must say the only 2 that I have been disappointed with are both zoo and mistress. I was blown away with last year's novel they tag teamed on called invisible and I do hope that they plan on writing more of them together.

This may be my favorite Patterson. I had no idea what was going to happen next. It's been a long time since a book literally made my heart start to beat faster, this one had me going! Wow, whodunit at its best!

This story was fantastic. It was exciting and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I had trouble putting the book down. The characters were well thought out, and it was difficult to tell who was going to turn out to be the villain. The ending to the mystery was a complete surprise and unpredictable. The authors did a great job of keeping things under wraps and making sure the waters were just muddied enough to have me changing my mind several times. There were even a couple of times I found myself in tears over some of the characters. It was frightening and compelling, and I enjoyed it immensely. That being said, there were a couple of major things that kept me from giving this a 5 star review, and they are things I assume, with the amount of money and access to professionals the author has, they shouldn't be an issue. I don't always consider the editing something major when I review, but there really wasn't any valid reason these two things shouldn't have been corrected. The first one, and the one that was unforgivable was the fact that some chapters were written from first person and some were written from third person. I have never seen a book written like this before, and it is one of the first rules of writing that you don't mix types of POV. It surprised me that the author allowed it. And there was no reason, that I could see, why the third person couldn't have been written as first person. It was simply disappointing. And the second issue was editing in general. There were some typos, but the story was riddled with punctuation problems, some of them forcing me to reread the sentence. I absolutely recommend the book because the story is what I want in a mystery. But the lack of good editing and the problem with the Point of View were simply disappointing.

Just couldn't get past the writing style. Almost never start a book and don't finish. This was one of the few. Really disappointed that James Patterson lent his name to this. Will make me think twice before reading another of his coauthored books.

Incredible read! I sure didn't see the last quarter of this book coming! Jenna Rose Murphy is a strong woman, recovering professionally from a bad break at her former police department. It's obvious how close she is to her Uncle Lang and how dedicated she is to finding the truth in her job. Ironically, she also solves the mystery of her past at the same time. Well-written with plenty of shocking twists. Patterson and Ellis have done it again! Great read!
