This is the most enjoyable "country" soundtrack I have heard in ages and the only one besides the T Bone Burnet produced O Brother Where Art Thou (and maybe all the way back to the soundtrack to Robert Altman's Nashville that similarly took non singers and encouraged them to dig into the genre) that I can imagine repeated playings. I had high hopes for the music for this series when I heard Burnett would produce and he does not disappoint, bringing alt/america/roots country royalty on board (such as Buddy Miller) to bring a range of very good actors who do not necessarily have the greatest voices to a whole other level.  Neither Britton nor Panettiere would likely get a contract outside the series, but they are well served and perform well here:  one of the graces of country music is that  story and emotion are more important than smooth pipes. Burnett and friends capture a variety of sub genres, from teen friendly pop (Telescope), to kick ass stomper (Wrong Song), to atmospheric progressive (Buried Under that, for better and worse remind me of Lanois produced later Emmylou Harris.)  The standouts here as they have been in scenes in the series are the duets between fledgeling songwriters Scarlet (Clare Bowen and Gunner (Sam Palladino) who take the show to a whole other level anytime they perform.  Equally accomplished is Charles Esten's take on the rough edged (but heart of gold) Deacon who elevates the work of both leading ladies to far more memorable music. Great job by all involved--highly recommended.

I was disappointed because my VERY FAVORITE song in the first season of Nashville was called "Fade Into You" (sung bysongwriters Scarlet (Clare Bowen and Gunner (Sam Palladino) & that song wasn't on the original soundtrack CD.....that song was the reason I bought Nashville's original soundtrack.
